Music therapy can help social workers deal with negative behaviors and symptoms of dementia in older adults without drugs or physical restraints, thereby improving the quality care. This study tested effectiveness music activities for agitated behavior living long‐term care institutions. The was quasi‐experimental. Eighty were recruited from two nursing homes. The efficacy of reminiscence and life review (LR) therapy in alleviating depression among older adults is well established. However, providers nonresearch settings might implement these interventions inadequately, such rarely can evaluate their outcomes using control groups. Alternatively, evaluators calculate a within-group effect size then compare it with average benchmarks derived from the randomized clinical trials (RCTs) supporting intervention's effectiveness. This study developed benchmarks. A search RCTs five systematic reviews meta-analyses, more recent published through 2016, yielded 25 studies that met inclusion criteria. Hedge's g for LR recipients waitlist controls were .598 -.20, respectively, .568 -.012 theory. These offer an approach evaluating implementation when groups are infeasible.
