Chewing problems are associated with increased mortality, geriatric syndromes and poor activities of daily living. Starting in 2018, Japan, a self-reported questionnaire investigating chewing status was implemented the annual health checkup program. Considering bidirectional association between hyperglycemia oral health, it is hypothesized that people will have relatively glycemic profiles. We investigated metabolic characteristics elderly community dwellers problems, as well HbA1c levels. This retrospective, cross-sectional study. reviewed data 1018 adults ≥ 65 years age who had undergone an at Nihon University Hospital during period from January 2019 through December 2019. The presence using constructed based on guidance provided by Japanese government. In participants, overall prevalence 10.4%. Participants showed significantly higher levels worse categories than those without such (HbA1c < 6.0%, 42.5% vs 54.8%; 6.0-6.9%, 41.5% 37.0%; 7.0%, 16.0% 8.2%, p = 0.008). 7.0% risk compared to 6.0% (odds ratio 2.76, 0.002), even after adjusting for effects age, sex, body mass index, eating behaviors, history diabetes mellitus.HbA1c community-dwellers. thus recommend proactive assessment conditions this population.

Abstract Background Masticatory dysfunction impacts food selection, nutritional intake and social activities; all of which play a vital role to ensure good general health quality life. Despite the rapidly ageing population, there is limited evidence regarding risk factors that lead masticatory in older adults or protective may help maintain ability. Furthermore, currently no consensus for specific test measures Objectives The objectives this scoping review are identify associated with determine most commonly used objective measure performance. Design A was performed using PRISMA recommendations. MEDLINE (Ovid), Embase, Scopus Web Science databases were searched. Seventy‐eight articles included review. There six randomised controlled trials, interventional studies, one systematic review, quasi‐experimental study, five prospective cohort 58 cross‐sectional studies case–control study. Data analysed frequency reporting on factors, and/or Results This identified tooth loss as common factor dysfunction. Other notable musculoskeletal conditions such frailty sarcopenia, cognitive decline malnutrition. Additionally, presence addition teeth main factor. denture maintenance via liners adhesives, textured foods, oral exercises. Chewing gum function, followed by occlusal force sieve methods. Conclusions found causal link between each ability adults. Masticatory function declines with age or disease, implicating a poor chewing efficiency and an often-unconscious change for less healthy, yet easy to chew diet. Timely screening of masticatory may foster early-onset diagnosis potential treatment. The aim this study was compare alternative diagnostic tools Jelly-scan test.Patients aged 70 years older who were hospitalised rehabilitation recruited study. A total four different tests administered. Japanese Society Gerodontology glucose extraction test (Jelly-scan) used as reference colour-changing gum (Gum1-colour) well mixing ability visual (Gum2-visual) opto-electronical (Gum2-digital) analyses. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves establish the discriminative value, kappa-values estimate individual agreements correlations verified using Spearman's tests.Sixty-one patients (Men n = 23, Women 38) 82.4 ± 6.8 participated in experiments. average number natural teeth 16.5 10.5, 34.4% participants wore removable dentures. For all tests, sum sensitivity specificity >150%. All correlated (absolute Rho >0.5). With 51 (83.6%) diagnosed "masticatory hypofunction". After reducing cut-off value from 100 mg/dL 65 mg/dL, only 33 (54%) fulfilled diagnosis. This post-hoc analysis increased Gum2-tests agreement kappa >0.5 three tests. All can be considered useful alternatives. Abstract The aim of this systematic review (SR) was to assess whether tooth mobility (TM) increases the risk extraction/loss. protocol registered in PROSPERO database (CRD42023485425). focused PECO questions were as follows: (1) “In patients with periodontitis, undergoing periodontal treatment, are teeth affected by at higher being extracted/lost compared non‐mobile teeth, a minimum follow‐up 10 years?” and (2) these patients, does varying degrees increase extraction/loss, years?”. Results reported according PRISMA statement. Electronic manual searches conducted identify longitudinal studies. different assessments pooled into three groups: TM0: Undetectable mobility, TM1: Horizontal/Mesio‐distal ≤1 mm, TM2: >1 mm or vertical mobility. Tooth loss primary outcome. Various meta‐analyses conducted, including subgroup analyses considering lengths timing TM assessment, along sensitivity analyses. A trial sequential analysis also performed. Eleven studies included (1883 patients). mean range 10–25 years. weighted total based on sample size, 18 918, 1604 (8.47%) teeth. overall rate extraction/loss increased increasing mobility: TM0 associated 5.85% (866/14822), TM1 11.8% (384/3255), TM2 40.3% (339/841).
