Purpose For the past three years, German longitudinal COPSY ( CO VID-19 and PSY chological Health ) study has monitored changes in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) mental health children adolescents during COVID-19 pandemic. Methods A nationwide, population-based survey was conducted May–June 2020 (W1), December 2020–January 2021 (W2), September–October (W3), February 2022 (W4), (W5). In total, n = 2,471 aged 7–17 years 1,673 11–17 with self-reports) were assessed using internationally established validated measures HRQoL (KIDSCREEN-10), problems (SDQ), anxiety (SCARED), depressive symptoms (CES-DC, PHQ-2), psychosomatic complaints (HBSC-SCL), fear about future (DFS-K). Findings compared to prepandemic data. Results While prevalence low increased from 15% 48% at W2, it improved 27% W5. Similarly, overall rose 18% W1 through W2 (30–31%), since then slowly declined (W3: 27%, W4: 29%, W5: 23%). Anxiety doubled 30% 25% (W5) then. Depressive 15%/10% (CES-DC/PHQ-2) 24%/15% decreased 14%/9% Psychosomatic are across all waves still on rise. 32–44% youth expressed fears related other current crises. Conclusion Mental year 3 pandemic, but is lower than before

Background Systematic reviews have suggested mixed effects of the COVID‐19 pandemic on mental health children and young people. However, most included studies focused general population were cross‐sectional. The long‐term impact those with pre‐existing and/or neurodevelopmental conditions remains unclear. Thus, we conducted a systematic review meta‐analysis to examine longitudinal this clinical potential explanatory factors. Methods Ovid Medline, Embase, APA PsycInfo Global Health databases searched between 1 January 2020 3 August 2023 (PROSPERO CRD42022383546). We that compared symptoms pre‐ during timepoints in people (≤18 years old) conditions. Outcomes internalising, externalising other symptoms. Risk bias was rated using an adapted tool. Included narratively synthesised multi‐level meta‐analyses where number sufficient. Results identified 21 ( N = 2,617) from 6,083 records. Studies differed across countries, diagnoses, measures, informants timepoints. All had overall moderate‐to‐high risk bias. Narrative synthesis found evidence symptom change, individual showing increase/reduction/no change. Factors such as diagnosis, baseline severity, age sex/gender may explain variation outcomes. Multi‐level feasible for limited outcomes no significant changes internalising versus or phases, high heterogeneity noted. Conclusions varied according contextual vulnerabilities, which not fully captured pooled analyses. Further research needs investigate longer‐term impacts better stratify vulnerable population.

Abstract Background The COVID-19-pandemic has had a profound impact on the lives of adolescents worldwide. This study examined subjective perception COVID-19 pandemic measures and its association with mental health well-being (i.e., loneliness, life satisfaction multiple complaints) among 13- 15-years-old from 22 countries. Methods Data cross-national Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) 2021/22 were used representative samples countries (N = 67,544; 51.9% girls). self-perceived measure comprised 10 items asking about several dimensions adolescent (e.g., relationships family friends, health, or eating behaviours). Measures complaints, included as indicators well-being. A non-parametric multilevel latent class analysis considering individual country-levels was conducted to identify classes measures. Multilevel logistic regression models adjusted by age socioeconomic status applied assess between health. Results Three identified level encompassing neutral (51%), positive (31%), negative (18%) third reported distribution heterogeneous within across Within class, social most important dimension, whereas problems mostly represented class. Girls showed higher levels loneliness complaints lower satisfaction. 15-year-old those low Conclusions majority perceived positive. Girls, adolescents, at risk suffering associated We conclude that adolescent’s should be considered decision-making process ensuring unique challenges are adequately addressed policies.
