Effect of Schinus areira L. Essential Oil on Attraction, Reproductive Behavior, and Survival of Ceratitis capitata Wiedemann

The
essential
oil
(EO)
of
Schinus
areira
exhibits
a
chemical
composition
dominated
by
monoterpene
and
sesquiterpene
hydrocarbons,
with
α-phellandrene,
limonene,
α-pinene,
p-cymene
as
major
constituents.
This
study
aimed
to
evaluate
the
effects
S.
EO
on
biology
behavior
Mediterranean
fruit
fly,
Ceratitis
capitata,
particularly
its
attraction
impact
reproductive
survival.
Females
were
attracted
at
initial
choice
time
spent
in
arm
Y-tube
olfactometer
was
longer,
while
males
final
choice,
indicating
attractive
potential
for
both
sexes
C.
capitata.
Within
context
sterile
insect
technique

performance

more
