The multifunctional packaging used for fresh food, such as antioxidant and antimicrobial packaging, can reduce food waste. In this work, a polylactic acid (PLA)-based composite film with antibacterial properties was prepared by using nano-zinc oxide (ZnONPs) pomegranate peel extract (PEE) via the solvent-casting method. Different amounts of PEE (0.5, 1, 1.5 2 wt%) 3 wt% ZnONPs were added to PLA produce active films. results various characterizations (SEM, XRD, etc.) showed that uniformly dispersed in film. Compared films, PLA/ZnONPs/PEE films an increased UV barrier, water vapor permeability elongation at break, decreased transparency tensile strength. addition, activity evaluated based on DPPH ABTS. maximum ABTS scavenging activities 96.2 ± 0.8% 93.1 0.5%. After 24 h, inhibited 1.4 0.05 Log CFU/mL S. aureus 8.2 0.35 E. coli, compared blank group. had good activities. Therefore, great potential packaging.

Chinese herbs have been used as feed additives in animal production. This study investigated the effects of a herbal feed-additive (TCM, which contained Elsholtzia ciliate, Atractylodes macrocephala, Punica granatum pericarpium, and Cyperus rotundus) on production performance, egg quality, antioxidant capacity, immunity, intestinal health Roman laying hens. A commonly wasted agricultural waste, pomegranate peel has attracted attention as a useful biomaterial with wide range of potential uses. Fruit and vegetable wastes create environmental difficulties, well loss valuable biomass financial cost to enterprises, due its high biodegradability. This study focuses on the extraction characterization cellulose from both outer inner layers peel. The process involves multi-step approach, encompassing delignification mercerization. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) revealed characteristic peaks associated cellulose, confirming presence in extracted material. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) depicted morphological transformation non-cellulosic components were removed during process. Particle size analysis demonstrated that alkaline treatment reduced particle size. X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicated significant increase crystallinity elimination hemicellulose lignin following chemical composition treated peels contained higher content compared their untreated counterparts. offers insightful information about possible uses adaptability different application.

The improper use and abuse of antibiotics have led to an increase in multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria resulting a failure standard antibiotic therapies. To date, this phenomenon represents leading public health threat the 21st century which requires alternative strategies fight infections such as identification new molecules active against MDR strains. Consistently, aim present study was evaluate antimicrobial activity hydro-alcoholic pomegranate peel extract (PPE) microorganisms belonging Enterococcus faecium , Staphylococcus aureus Klebsiella pneumoniae Acinetobacter baumannii Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter spp. “ESKAPE” group pathogens. Through semiquantitative quantitative methods, PPE showed effective Gram-positive Gram-negative bacteria. kinetics bactericidal action highlighted that microbial death achieved time- dose-dependent manner. High concentrations exhibited antioxidant activity, providing protective effect on cellular systems red blood cell membranes. Hot water blanching at 80 °C for 3 min can be used as a novel pre-treatment step in pomegranate peel to preserve the integrity of phytochemical content within extracts by lowering or inactivating enzymes such polyphenol (PPO) oxidase and peroxidase (POD) that are responsible break-down phytochemicals peel. Abstract Pomegranate peel (PoP) is a byproduct of the pomegranate juice industry and contains substantial quantity bioactive compounds that hold considerable promise for implementation in sustainable packaging applications. This review article provides an exhaustive examination different extraction methods are employed to extract valuable from PoPs. The encompassing contemporary techniques such as ultrasound‐assisted extraction, microwave‐assisted supercritical fluid extraction. It assesses effectiveness, yield, environmental repercussions each technique. Additionally, paper explores wide range found PoPs, which contribute their exceptional suitability purposes. Urolithin A, a metabolite of ellagic acid, has many beneficial biological activities for people. Strains capable producing urolithin A from acid have the hope becoming next-generation probiotics. However, only few species these strains been reported. In this study, FUA329, strain converting to in vitro, was isolated breast milk healthy Chinese women. The results morphological observation, physiological and biochemical tests, 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis confirmed that FUA329 Streptococcus thermophilus. addition, S. thermophilus growth phase is consistent with degradation produced stationary phase, maximum concentration 7.38 μM at 50 h. corresponding conversion efficiency 82%. summary, novel A-producing bacterium, would be useful industrial production may developed as probiotic.
