The purpose of this systematic literature review was to establish a correlation between thyroid dysfunctions and periodontium health. conducted according PRISMA statement. An electronic search performed using MEDLINE (PubMed) Google Scholar databases combination keywords "hypothyroidism", "thyroid", "thyroid dysfunction" "periodontitis". research covered the period from January 1, 2019 July 2024, included studies written in English, humans. results showed that hyperthyroidism can be associated with higher prevalence periodontitis due decreased oral microbiome diversity, serum thyroid-stimulating hormone levels, increased periodontal pocket depth, clinical attachment loss interleukin-6. Hyperparathyroidism after parathyroidectomy may lead slightly risk tooth extraction first two years afterward because decreasing lamina dura, increasing ligament width. And hypothyroidism negatively affects homeostasis calcium phosphorus fluid change composition bone minerals. Hyperthyroidism increases by promoting deeper pockets, reducing altering alveolar structure elevating inflammatory markers like interleukin-6, which are linked disease progression. Hypothyroidism worsens disrupting calcium-phosphorus balance causing changes, especially young individuals. Both conditions affect homeostasis, emphasizing bidirectional relationship endocrine Dentists should monitor dysfunction, as managing levels improve treatment.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the tissues surrounding and supporting teeth. Due to development inflammation, periodontitis can contribute several systemic diseases, including thyroid disease. Thyroid pathology includes benign, malignant, autoimmune conditions leading hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or euthyroidism. Alterations in hormones, especially reveal significant oral manifestations, periodontitis. This scoping review aims explore probable causal relationship between disease, terms epidemiology, pathogenesis, treatment. The search strategy follows PRISMA-ScR guidelines. PubMed, Scopus, Web Science, Cochrane were searched from January 2014 2024, entering MESH “periodontitis” “thyroid”. Of 153 initial records, 20 articles selected discussed. There high prevalence among patients with cancer. causes at basis this association are genetic factors, microbiome, proinflammatory cytokines. Periodontal treatment, specifically scaling root planning, ameliorate parameters. Although there few randomized controlled studies literature, lays foundation for bidirectional link which is, once again, inflammation.

Abstract Objectives The present study aimed to compare dental, endodontic, and periodontal status in patients with Hashimoto's disease healthy patients, as well disclose the relation between dental variables disease. Materials Methods research included 85 affected by thyroiditis (analyzed group) (control group). two groups were matched according age gender. Data regarding patients' health was acquired from their medical records. records digital panoramic radiographs. Statistical Analysis Since a nonnormal distribution of data detected, median interquartile range used measure central tendency dispersion. Mann–Whitney U test chi-squared differences groups. Multiple linear regression analysis logistic association data. Results Healthy participants had significantly higher number teeth secondary caries (median 2; 1–3) when compared 1; 0–2; p < 0.001). Periodontal more than (68.2% vs. 45.9%; chi-square = 7.779; 0.005). presence increased risk three times (odds ratio [OR] 3.14; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.38–7.15; 0.007). 2.5 (OR 2.54; CI: 1.36–4.73; 0.004). Conclusion With limitations mind, it may be concluded that positive relationship exists.

Periodontal disease, a multifactorial inflammatory condition affecting the supporting structures of teeth, has been increasingly recognized for its association with various systemic diseases. Understanding molecular comorbidities periodontal disease is crucial elucidating shared pathogenic mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets. In this study, we conducted comprehensive literature biological database mining utilizing tools such as DisGeNET2R, Romin, Rentrez R libraries to identify diseases sharing associated genes, proteins, or pathways periodontitis. Our analysis revealed significant overlaps between several conditions, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, bowel Shared implicated in pathogenesis these periodontitis encompassed dysregulation mediators, immune response pathways, oxidative stress alterations extracellular matrix. Furthermore, network unveiled key hub genes proteins that play pivotal roles crosstalk comorbidities, offering targets intervention. Insights gained from integrative approach shed light on intricate interplay health well-being, emphasizing importance interdisciplinary collaboration developing personalized treatment strategies patients comorbidities.

Objective: This review aims to elucidate the link between Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT) and periodontal disease (PD) substantiate whether autoimmune mechanisms involved in pathogenesis of HT influence integrity oral tissues, eventually inducing development PD. Methods: The present article is a narrative that has been composed conforming Scale for Assessment Narrative Review Articles (SANRA) guidelines on topic ‘Association PD’. Results: Eight studies, including four case–control one cross-sectional study, two case reports, bidirectional Mendelian randomization were cited. These studies filtered by language (all English) relevance sourced from Google Scholar PubMed databases. results suggest potential PD, indicating may have direct impact tissues. Conclusion: Existing research shows limited but probable evidence associating with PD; nevertheless, further large-scale refined methodologies are required assess this hypothesis precise which contribute PD pathogenesis.

Thyroid diseases are increasingly prevalent, posing significant challenges to patients' quality of life and placing substantial financial burdens on families society. Despite these impacts, the underlying pathophysiology many thyroid conditions remains poorly understood, complicating efforts in treatment, management, prevention. Observational studies can identify associations between exposure variables disease; however, they often struggle account for confounding factors reverse causation. Understanding disease occurrence, epidemiological trends, clinical diagnosis, prevention, treatment relies heavily robust etiological research. Mendelian randomization, a method grounded genetics epidemiology, has been widely employed studying etiology diseases, offering solution some challenges. This paper categorizes into dysfunction cancer, reviewing related randomization studies. It further provides novel perspectives approaches investigating mechanisms designing intervention strategies.
