Light contains different wavelengths of the spectrum that are detected and received by photoreceptor cells (rod cone cells) in retina. However, light serves non-visual functions human perception, such as emotion regulation, cognitive performance, sleep cycle, hormone production. These alter brain activity oxygen consumption brain. Our objective was to investigate effect on using NIRS. Ten subjects (8 males, 2 females) with normal color vision were exposed achromatic (white gray) or chromatic (blue, green, yellow, red) for 20 seconds random order, followed 30 rest (dim light). This stimulation-rest cycle repeated 4 times (total time = 20.30 minutes). NIRS used measure Oxy-Hb, Deoxy-Hb, Total-Hb levels frontal lobe during stimulation. After stimulation, participants assessed BRUMS a effectiveness test. The results indicated z-score Oxy-Hb significantly altered response gray compared white light. Red blue led greater than green yellow there no significant Deoxy-Hb both exposure. Gray induced feelings depression confusion, while red affected tension anger. promoted vigor. Fatigue did not show difference between Additionally, long had more positive short wavelengths. findings indicate possible uses neurotherapeutic interventions stimulating individuals impairments therapy boxes, well architectural lighting design impact regulation.

With climate change Northern areas of the globe are expected to have less daylight during winters due snow and more cloudiness. While wintertime has been linked mental health problems, role scarcely studied. We examined longitudinal associations for objective exposure global radiation self-reported with symptoms depression sleep problems. Our analytical sample included 15,619 respondents from three Swedish Longitudinal Occupational Surveys Health (2012, 2014 2016). Objective was (MJ/m2, November-January November-February). Subjective based on time outdoors in (<1 hour vs. ≥1 hour, November-January). Symptoms were evaluated using a six-item subscale (Hopkins) Symptom Checklist. Fixed-effects method conditional logistic regression controlled time-invariant participant characteristics by design time-varying covariates added into models. One unit increase four-month averaged associated lower odds depressive (OR 0.69, 95% CI 0.52-0.91). These findings confirmed cumulative 0.91, 0.85-0.98). Individuals reporting winter months likely report 0.72, 0.60-0.82) compared when their <1 hour. Higher three-month suggested protective association suggest that higher may contribute likelihood symptoms.

Background and Objectives: Light therapy (LT) is used as an adjunctive treatment for sleep problems. This study evaluates the impact of LT on quality sleep-related parameters in patients with disorders. Materials Methods: We performed a pilot, randomized, open-label clinical trial. Fourteen aged 20–60 years insomnia were randomized into control groups (1:1 ratio). The group was instructed to use device that provides bright (6000 K, 380 lux, wavelength 480 nm) at least 25 min before 09:00 a.m. two weeks. A self-reported questionnaire evaluate circadian preference, mood, parameters. analyzed serum cortisol levels clock genes’ expression. Results: Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), severity index(ISI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality index(PSQI) significantly improved within only after two-week period. When comparing groups, change ESS significant (mean difference, control: −0.14 vs. LT: −1.43, p = 0.021) adjusting baseline characteristics. There no differences or Conclusions: can improve daytime sleepiness disorders; however, further well-designed studies are warranted confirm its efficacy.
