Female but not male mosquitoes are vectors for multiple deadly human diseases including malaria, dengue, yellow fever, and West Nile virus. However, the underlying neural substrates of sexually dimorphic behaviors remain largely unknown in mosquitoes. In this study, we found striking sexual dimorphism brain regions two major disease vectors, Aedes aegypti Culex quinquefasciatus, through voxel-wise comparison whole brain. Female-enlarged include those associated with chemosensation vision, while male-enlarged linked to hearing memory. some vision memory Ae. Cx. quinquefasciatus. As first global voxel-based comparative neuroanatomical analysis mosquito brains between sexes, study only sheds light on sex-specific behaviors, also identifies interest future research disrupt female-specific critical transmission.

Abstract Background Mosquitoes of the Anopheles gambiae complex are one major vectors malaria in sub-Saharan Africa. Their ability to transmit this disease public health importance is dependent on their abundance, biting behaviour, susceptibility and survive long enough parasites. A deeper understanding behaviour can be exploited for improving vector surveillance control. Findings Adult mosquitoes emerge from aquatic habitats at dusk. After a 24 h teneral period, which cuticle hardens adult matures, they may disperse random search upwind mate or feed. Mating generally takes place dusk swarms that form over species-specific ‘markers’. Well-nourished females before blood-feeding, but reverse true poorly-nourished insects. Females monogamous only once whilst males, feed nectar, swarm nightly potentially up four times. able locate hosts by following carbon dioxide odour gradients. When close proximity host, visual cues, temperature relative humidity also used. Most blood-feeding occurs night, indoors, with entering houses mainly through gaps between roof walls. With exception first feed, gonotrophically concordant blood meal gives rise complete egg batch. Egg development two three days depending temperature. Gravid leave resting sites They attracted water gradients volatile chemicals provide suitable habitat lay eggs. Conclusion Whilst traditional interventions, using insecticides, target additional protection achieved spatial repellents outdoors, attractant traps house modifications prevent mosquito entry. Future research variability movement across landscape, light vision, reproductive barriers gene flow, male evolutionary changes could lead an improvement better methods control reducing current over-reliance indoor application insecticides.

Mosquito-borne diseases exert a huge impact on both animal and human populations, posing substantial health risks. The behavioural fitness traits of mosquitoes, such as locomotion fecundity, are crucial factors that influence the spread diseases. In existing egg-counting tools, each image requires separate processing with adjustments to various parameters intensity threshold egg area size. Furthermore, accuracy decreases significantly when dealing clustered or overlapping eggs. To overcome these issues, we have developed EggCountAI, Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (RCNN)-based free automatic tool for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The study design involves developing EggCountAI counting mosquito eggs comparing its performance two commonly employed tools-ICount MECVision-using 10 microscopic macroscopic images laid by females paper strip. results were validated through manual strips using ImageJ software. Abstract Background Aedes aegypti , the main arboviral mosquito vector, is attracted to human dwellings and makes use of human-generated breeding sites. Past research has shown that bacterial communities associated with such sites undergo compositional shifts as larvae develop exposure different bacteria during larval stages can have an impact on development life-history traits. Based these facts, we hypothesized female Ae. shape oviposition a form niche construction favor offspring fitness. Results To test this hypothesis, first verified gravid females act mechanical vectors bacteria. We then elaborated experimental scheme site microbiota. Five groups were set up sterile aqueous solution food, subsequently exposed (1) environment alone, (2) surface-sterilized eggs, (3) unsterilized (4) non-egg laying female, or (5) by female. The microbiota differently treated was assessed amplicon-oriented DNA sequencing once from eggs had completed formed pupae. Microbial ecology analyses revealed significant differences between five treatments in terms diversity. In particular, between-treatment abundance profiles detected, showing induce decrease microbial alpha diversity through oviposition. addition, indicator species analysis pinpointed taxa predicting values fidelity coefficients for samples which single laid eggs. Furthermore, provide evidence regarding how one taxa, Elizabethkingia exerts positive effect fitness larvae. Where a female mosquito lays her eggs creates the conditions for reproductive success. Here we identify communal behavior among ovipositing mosquitoes. When choosing equal breeding sites, gravid Aedes aegypti aggregate more often than expected. This aggregation occurs when water contact is restricted and does not require presence of eggs. Instead, regulated by number females present at site. Using assays with both occupied empty oviposition show that Orco olfactory co-receptor carbon dioxide receptor, Gr3, detect orco mutants in suggesting attractive cues influence to associate one another. Abstract BACKGROUND The Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus , is a competent vector for the spread of several viral arboviruses including dengue, chikungunya, and Zika. Several vital mosquito behaviors linked to survival reproduction are primarily dependent on sophisticated olfactory system semiochemical perception. However, limited number studies has hampered our understanding relationship between A. acute complex chemical world. RESULTS Here, we performed qRT‐PCR assay antennae from differing sex, age physiological states, found that AalbOr10 was enriched in blood‐fed female mosquitoes. We then undertook single sensillum recording de‐orphan using panel physiologically behaviorally relevant odorants Drosophila ‘empty neuron’ system. results indicated activated by seven aromatic compounds, all which egg‐laying Furthermore, post‐RNA interference oviposition assay, reducing transcript level affected repellent activity mediated 2‐ethylphenol at low concentrations (10 −4 vol/vol). Computational modeling molecular docking suggested hydrogen bonds Y68 Y150 interaction with AalbOr10. CONCLUSION reveal potential link aromatics‐induced repellency specific odorant receptor .
