Biogenic secondary organic aerosols (SOAs) can be formed from the oxidation of plant volatiles in atmosphere. Herbivore-induced (HIPVs) elicit defenses, but whether such ecological functions persist after they form SOAs was previously unknown. Here we show that Scots pine seedlings damaged by large weevils feeding on their roots release HIPVs trigger defenses neighboring conspecific plants. The biological activity persisted had been oxidized to SOAs, which indicated receivers displaying enhanced photosynthesis, primed volatile and reduced weevil damage. elemental composition quantity likely determines functions. This work demonstrates plant-derived mediate interactions between plants, highlighting significance ecosystems.

Plants respond to environmental stimuli via the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and neighboring plants constantly monitor these VOCs with great sensitivity discrimination. This sensing can trigger increased plant fitness reduce future damage through priming their own defenses. The defense mechanism in either be induced by activation regulatory or transcriptional machinery, it delayed absorption storage for generation an appropriate response later. Despite much research, many key questions remain on role interplant communication fitness. Here we review recent research biotic (i.e. insects pathogens) abiotic cold, drought, salt) stresses, elucidate biosynthesis stress-induced tea plants. Our focus is complex ecological environments. Particularly, roles under stress are highlighted. Finally, discuss pertinent directions advancing our understanding interactions VOCs.

Terpenes, especially volatile terpenes, are important components of tea aroma due to their unique scents. They also widely used in the cosmetic and medical industries. In addition, terpene emission can be induced by herbivory, wounding, light, low temperature, other stress conditions, leading plant defense responses plant–plant interactions. The transcriptional levels core genes (including HMGR, DXS, TPS) involved terpenoid biosynthesis up- or downregulated MYB, MYC, NAC, ERF, WRKY, bHLH transcription factors. These regulators bind corresponding cis-elements promoter regions genes, some them interact with factors form a complex. Recently, several key synthesis have been isolated functionally identified from plants. this work, we focus on research progress regulation terpenes plants (Camellia sinensis) thoroughly detail compounds, biosynthesis-related biosynthesis, importance. Plants produce an incredible variety of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that assist the interactions with their environment, such as attracting pollinating insects and seed dispersers defense against herbivores, pathogens, parasites. Furthermore, VOCs have a significant economic impact on crop quality, well beverage, food, perfume, cosmetics pharmaceuticals industries. These are mainly classified terpenoids, benzenoids/phenylpropanes, fatty acid derivates. Fruits vegetables rich in minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, dietary fiber, while aroma play major role flavor quality management these horticultural commodities. Subtle shifts can dramatically alter texture fruits vegetables, altering consumer appeal. Rapid innovations -omics techniques led to isolation genes encoding enzymes involved biosynthesis several volatiles, which has aided our comprehension regulatory molecular pathways VOC production. The present review focuses significance volatiles profile crops addresses industrial applications plant-derived particularly food beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, biofuel Additionally, methodological constraints complexities limit transition from gene selection host organisms laboratories practical implementation discussed, along metabolic engineering’s potential for enhancing terpenoids production at level.

Plants respond to environmental stimuli by releasing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which play diverse roles in plant-to-plant interactions. Previous studies have primarily focused on how receiving plants respond. However, little is known about these receivers communicate back the emitter and their subsequent impacts. Our findings indicated increased plant tolerance when neighboring were present, suggesting bidirectional communication. Furthermore, we established a model explore role of signals from receiver plants, identifying squalene as crucial feedback signal enhancing cold up-regulating CsCBF5 expression. Further analysis using yeast one-hybrid coupled with inhibition brassinosteroid pathways suggested that squalene-induced castasterone (CS) accumulation directly activated expression modulated CsBES1/BZR1 . Overall, results demonstrated squalene-CS- BES1/BZR1 - CBF5 pathway communication between expanding our understanding

The fight against insect pests primarily relies on the utilization of synthetic insecticides. However, improper application these chemicals can lead to detrimental effects both environment and human health, as well foster development resistance. Consequently, novel strategies must be implemented address challenges stemming from prolonged use insecticides in agricultural public health environments. Certain involve combination crop protectants, which not only enhance insecticidal effectiveness but also reduce rates. Plant-based natural products emerge promising alternatives for management. Monoterpenes, are abundant plant compounds produced through activation various enzymes, have attracted significant attention their control. Notably, they prolific fragrance-producing plants. This review explores defense, insecticidal, antimicrobial characteristics monoterpenes pests, shedding light potential modes action possibilities commercialization. Emphasizing role targeted environmentally safer, highlights practical viability within integrated pest management programs.

Sorghum is a plant belonging to the Poaceae family. It drought-resistant and has low soil requirements. In face of climate change, it increasingly cultivated in Europe. Poland country with great agricultural potential; thus important develop effective economic methods production, which confirmed by introduction sorghum into cultivation. The aim this study was characterize composition bioactive compounds (i.e., phenolic acids, flavonoids, carotenoids, phytosterols) VOCs grain two varieties, i.e., white ‘Sweet Caroline’ red Susana’ grown temperate (Pętkowo, (52°12′40″ N 17°15′31″ E)). following tests were carried out: analysis phytosterols, antioxidant activity (ABTS), free acids (FPAs); elemental analysis; water, fat starch content analysis. Based on conducted research, concluded that appropriate conditions for growing sorghum, as (antioxidant) at similar level those tropical subtropical climates. Of nine seven flavonoids determined, highest concentrations both varieties found ferulic, p-coumaric protocatechuic acids. ferulic acid three times higher Sweet Caroline grains than Susana grains. Differences these may be result genetic differences between varieties.

One of the most concerning global environmental issues is pollution agricultural soils by heavy metals (HMs), especially cadmium, which not only affects human health through Cd-containing foods but also impacts quality rice. The soil’s nitrification and denitrification processes, coupled with release volatile organic compounds plants, raise substantial concerns. In this review, we summarize recent literature related to deleterious effects Cd on both soil processes N cycle rice quality, particularly aroma, in different water management practices. Under continuous flooding (CF) alternate wetting drying (AWD) conditions, cadmium has been observed reduce processes. adverse are more pronounced as compared (CF). Similarly, alteration aroma significant AWD than CF. precise modulation (VOCs) remains unclear based available literature. Nevertheless, HM accumulation higher conditions CF, leading a detrimental impact (VOCs). concludes that practices should be avoided Cd-contaminated fields decrease maintain future, rhizospheric engineering plant biotechnology can used transport HMs from plant’s edible parts.
