In Chile, individuals are commonly exposed to high altitude due the work shift system, involving days of exposure followed by at sea level over long term, which can result in chronic intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (CIHH). CIHH cause high-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH), principal manifestation is right ventricular hypertrophy (RVH), some cases leading heart failure and eventually death. Studies have shown contribution oxidative stress inflammation RVH development. Recently, it was determined that pigment astaxanthin has antioxidant capacity strong anti-inflammatory cardioprotective effects. Therefore, aim this study determine effects on development rats subjected CIHH. Methods: Thirty two male Wistar were randomly assigned following groups (n = 8 per group): normoxia with vehicle (NX), (NX + AS), (CIHH), (CIHH AS) groups. simulated 2 a chamber for 29 days. Results: Exposure induced increased lipid peroxidation (MDA), Nox2 expression, SOD activity, however, decreased pro-IL-1β expression. Astaxanthin restored markers (Nox2 MDA), GPx compared Conclusion: alleviates reduces MDA levels while increasing activity These findings provide new insights as nutraceutical against

Chronic intermittent hypoxia (IH) is one of the hallmark features obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and adversely affects neurocognitive behavioral functioning. However, how duration IH correlates with its deleterious effects remains unexplored. We aimed to assess over a prolonged period time mimicking untreated OSA. Male C57Bl/6J mice were exposed for 96 weeks. Sleep activity was acquired using piezoelectric system. Novel object recognition (NOR) elevated plus maze test (EPMT) conducted as measures cognitive function anxiety, respectively. Brain inflammation evaluated by panel marker assays. All tests performed after 16 weeks exposure. After weeks, percentages during dark phase decreased in both room air (RA) compared 16-week exposure (RA: p = 0.0214; IH: 0.0188). In addition age-dependent declines NOR performance, had lower preference scores than RA controls (p 0.0070). The spent open arms EPMT reduced RA. Inflammatory expression increased IH-exposed mice. Thus, aging induce similar alterations sleep, cognition, neuroinflammation. are exacerbated concurrent IH, suggesting that OSA disease associated an acceleration biological aging.

The physiological sequelae of pre-term birth might influence the responses this population to hypoxia. Moreover, identifying variables associated with development acute mountain sickness (AMS) remains a key practically significant area altitude research. We investigated effects on nocturnal oxygen saturation ( SpO2${{S}_{{\mathrm{p}}{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}}}}$ ) dynamics and assessed predictive potential -related metrics for morning AMS in 12 healthy adults gestational age < 32 weeks (pre-term) term-born control participants. The “normobaric oxygen paradox” (NOP) describes the response to return normoxia after a hyperoxic event, sensed by tissues as an shortage, up-regulating redox-sensitive transcription factors. We have previously characterized time trend of oxygen-sensitive factors in human PBMCs, which 30% is hypoxic trigger, hypoxia-induced factor (HIF-1) activation. On contrary, 100% and 140% induce shift toward oxidative stress response, NRF2 NF-kB activation first 24 h post exposure. Herein, we investigate whether this paradigm triggers Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs) Oxidation Protein Products (AOPPs) circulating biomarkers stress. Secondly, studied if mitochondrial biogenesis was involved link cellular PBMCs. Our results show that AGEs AOPPs increase different manner according dose. Mitochondrial levels peroxiredoxin (PRX3) supported increased at mild hyperoxia, MH (30% O2), high HH (100% while during very VHH (140% significantly only 3 activated through nuclear translocation PGC-1α all experimental conditions. Cellular magnetic field effects are assumed to base on coherent singlet-triplet interconversion of radical pairs that sensitive applied radiofrequency (RF) and weak fields (WEMFs), known as pair mechanism (RPM). As a leading model, the RPM explains how quantum can influence biochemical cellular signalling. Abstract Hypoxia is more and perceived as pivotal physiological driving force, allowing cells in the brain elsewhere to acclimate lowered oxygen (O 2 ), abridged metabolism. The mediating transcription program induced by inspiratory hypoxia but also intensive motor‐cognitive tasks, provoking a relative decrease O relation acutely augmented requirement. We termed this fundamental, demand‐dependent drop availability “functional hypoxia.” Major players response are hypoxia‐inducible factors (HIFs) associated prolyl‐hydroxylases. HIFs factors, stabilized low accessibility, control expression of multitude genes. Changes oxygen, however, can be sensed via other pathways, among them thiol‐oxidase (2‐aminoethanethiol) dioxygenase. Our search was conducted on MEDLINE via PubMed, Scopus, Web Science, and Cochrane CENTRAL from inception September 2023. Eligible studies were observational in nature focused several specific occupations. A total 46 articles included (n = 2,826,420 participants). The overall OHP found be 4.2% (95% CI: 2.1% 8.0%), but varied significantly based occupation geographic location. Printers had highest at 57.14%, followed by tobacco workers (26.32%), water-related (24.10%). South America showed 16.71%, compared Asia (15.19%), North (8.52%). Significant variations region found, with rates printers workers. Age smoking identified as contributing factors variability.

The human brain is highly dependent on oxygen, utilizing approximately 20% of the body’s oxygen at rest. Oxygen deprivation to can lead loss consciousness within seconds and death minutes. Recent studies have identified regions with spontaneous episodic hypoxia, referred as “hypoxic pockets”. Hypoxia also result from impaired blood flow due conditions such heart disease, clots, stroke, or hemorrhage, well reduced intake excessive consumption caused by factors like low ambient pulmonary diseases, infections, inflammation, cancer. Severe hypoxia in manifest symptoms similar Parkinson’s disease (PD), including cerebral edema, mood disturbances, cognitive impairments. Additionally, development PD appears be closely associated hypoxic pathways. This review seeks investigate molecular interactions between PD, emphasizing pathological role pathways exploring their potential therapeutic targets.

Background/Objectives: Post-COVID-19 condition (PCC), also known as long COVID, has emerged a recognized syndrome affecting millions of people worldwide, significantly impairing their quality life. Currently, no effective therapeutic options are available to manage this condition. The objective the present study was evaluate long-term effects personalized, algorithm-based intermittent hypoxia–hyperoxia conditioning (IHHC) on life and pain in patients with PCC. Methods: This open-label cohort included 199 PCC patients, aged 11–87 years (female-to-male ratio: 67:33) experiencing moderate-to-severe fatigue, between 1 January 2020 31 December 2023. Each patient received an treatment plan tailored demographics, symptom duration, baseline (NRS) (SF-36) scores. Patients average six sessions (range: 2–21), each consisting hypoxic–hyperoxic cycles, hypoxia (9–13% O2) lasting 3–8 min hyperoxia (34–36% 1–3 min. primary outcomes were changes NRS SF-36 scores at 6-week 6-month follow-ups. Results: At follow-up after initiation, increased by 102 points (p < 0.001, 95% CI: 78.4–127), improvement persisted (Δ106, p 57.0–154). Pain reduced 28–32% both time points, exceeding clinically relevant threshold. Health transition indicated patient-perceived health status. Conclusions: In study, IHHC alleviated improved suffering from persistent sequelae COVID-19 infection. sustained for up months. Further research is warranted elucidate mechanisms underlying IHHC’s population.
