With Norway's successes in middle and long-distance running, lactate-guided threshold training has regained importance recent years. Therefore, the aim of present study was to investigate individual responses on common monitoring parameters based a conventional method. In total, 15 trained runners (10 males, 5 females; 18.6 ± 3.3 years; VO2max: 59.3 5.9 mL kg-1 min-1) completed 40-min continuous running session at fixed lactate load 2 mmol L-1. Lactate (La), oxygen uptake (VO2), heart rate (HR), rating perceived exertion (RPE) were recorded. The chosen workload led values 2.85 0.56 L-1 (range: 1.90-3.80), percentage VO2max utilization (%VO2max) 79.2 2.5% 74.9-83.8), HRmax (%HRmax) 92.2 88.1-95.3), an RPE 6.1 1.9 3-10) end session. Thereby, differed considerably. These results indicate that method can lead different responses, potentially resulting various physiological impacts. Moreover, correlation analyses suggest athletes with higher performance levels must choose their intensity methods more conservatively (lower threshold) avoid eliciting excessively strong metabolic responses.

ABSTRACT In the context of training load monitoring, most demanding periods play (MDPs) have increasingly caught interest researchers. However, MDPs analysis is currently embryonic, raising some conceptual and methodological questions. This current opinion synthesizes methods used for while highlighting gaps proposing a broader perspective on topic. It underlined that (a) information available mostly limited to external (particularly running-based metrics), with scarce research focused internal load; (b) metrics been analyzed in univariate way, neglecting multivariate scenarios from which emerge; (c) are highly variable over time due complex interaction between individual, tactical–technical, contextual factors; (d) evidence regarding contextualization tactical–technical perspective. Thus, would benefit cross-referencing game moments tactical actions avoiding idea fixed benchmarks given inherent match-to-match variability. Practitioners may consider replicating (and their contexts) (some?) sessions as complementary prescription strategy (metaphorically, cherry top, not cake). feasibility effectiveness such practices warrant investigation.

Context: Today’s elite and professional sports tend to feature older, more seasoned athletes, who have longer sporting careers. As advancing age can potentially limit peak performance, balancing training load is necessary maintain an optimal state of performance extend their career. Objective: To describe appropriate model for extended career athletes. Data Sources: Medline (PubMed), SPORTDiscus, ScienceDirect, Web Science, Google Scholar. Study Selection: A search the literature between January 1, 2015 November 22, 2023 was performed in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Design: Narrative review. Level Evidence: 4. Extraction: were extracted from studies related management athletes long Results: total 21 articles careers found. Key themes these papers included: expertise, biological maturation, specificity; epidemiology health; athlete monitoring; strength training; detraining; success management. Conclusion: should balance deleterious effects athletes’ knowledge of, expertise within, sport. Designing specific that accommodates previous injuries, intolerances, caters quality life after retirement be key considerations. Load strategies include adaptations minimize pain, load-response monitoring, a broad range movement, recovery intensity activities, avoidance large peaks periods inactivity.
