Sexual coercion is a manifestation of sexual conflict increasing male mating success while inflicting costs to females. Although previous work has examined inter-individual variation in sexually coercive tactics, little known about female counter-strategies. We investigated whether social bonding mitigates the extent faced by mandrills (Mandrillus sphinx), as putative mechanism linking sociality fitness. Surprisingly, females most from those males with whom they formed strongest bonds, strength female-male bond was also positively correlated all other males. Finally, greater integration network coercion, through direct 'public exposure' and not mediated reproductive or retaliation potential. Altogether, this study shows that neither between- nor within-sex bonds are protective against identifies, instead, hidden cost bonding.

All humans have a fundamental need to belong (NTB), that is, forming and maintaining social connections. However, having these positive bonds does not necessarily equal one’s sense-of- belongingness (SOB). Contemporary literature frequently uses NTB SOB interchangeably, or is seen as by-product of satisfaction. This conceptual paper aims (1) provide the arguments there exists difference between “Need Belong” universal construct psychological “ sense-of-belongingness” sensation arose from distinct conditions, (2) argue differences bear on human action under specific situations contexts. Two hypothetical life are presented illustrate divergence motivational compared self-processes regarding sense-of-belongingness. We concluded claim SOB, might be conceptually empirically opposed unrelated one another.
