Abstract Preterm birth (PTB) is the leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. The vaginal microbiome has been associated with PTB, yet mechanisms underlying this association are not fully understood. Understanding microbial genetic adaptations to selective pressures, especially those related host, may yield insights into these associations. Here, we analyze metagenomic data from 705 samples collected during pregnancy 40 women who delivered preterm spontaneously 135 term controls Multi-Omic Microbiome Study-Pregnancy Initiative. We find that pregnancies ended exhibited unique profiles. It was more genetically diverse at species level, a result which validate in an additional cohort, harbored higher richness diversity antimicrobial resistance genes, likely promoted by transduction. Interestingly, Gardnerella drove diversity, particularly first half pregnancy. further present evidence spp. underwent frequent recombination stronger purifying selection genes involved lipid metabolism. Overall, our population genetics analyses reveal associations between PTB suggest evolutionary processes acting on microbes play role adverse outcomes such as PTB.

The gut microbiota modulates response to hormonal treatments in prostate cancer (PCa) patients, but whether it influences PCa progression remains unknown. Here, we show a reduction fecal alpha-diversity correlating with increase tumour burden two distinct groups of hormonotherapy naïve patients and three murine models. Fecal transplantation (FMT) from high volume is sufficient stimulate the growth mouse revealing existence microbiome-cancer crosstalk. Analysis microbial-related pathways mice aggressive identifies enzymes responsible for metabolism long-chain fatty acids (LCFA). Supplementation LCFA omega-3 MAG-EPA reduce up-grading pre-prostatectomy Ruminococcaceae both butyrate levels patients. This suggests that beneficial effect rich diet mediated part by modulating crosstalk between microbes their metabolites men PCa.

Abstract The nasal cavity harbors diverse microbiota that contributes to human health and respiratory diseases. However, whether what extent the host genome shapes microbiome remains largely unknown. Here, by dissecting metagenome data from 1401 healthy individuals, we demonstrated top three genetic principal components strongly correlated with diversity composition. association analyses identified 63 genome-wide significant loci affecting microbial taxa functions, of which 2 reached study-wide significance ( p < 1.7 × 10 -10 ): rs73268759 within CAMK2A associated genus Actinomyces family Actinomycetaceae; rs35211877 near POM121L12 Gemella asaccharolytica . In addition respiratory-related diseases, are mainly implicated in cardiometabolic or neuropsychiatric Functional analysis showed genes were most significantly expressed airway epithelium tissue enriched calcium signaling hippo pathway. Further observational correlation Mendelian randomization consistently suggested causal effects Serratia grimesii Yokenella regensburgei on biomarkers (cystine, glutamic acid, creatine). This study plays an important role shaping microbiome.

Among all non-communicable diseases, Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) stand as the leading global cause of mortality. Within this spectrum, Myocardial Infarction (MI) strikingly accounts for over 15 % deaths. The intricate web risk factors MI, comprising family history, tobacco use, oral health, hypertension, nutritional pattern, and microbial infections, is firmly influenced by human gut microbiota, their diversity, richness, dysbiosis, along with respective metabolites. Host genetic factors, especially allelic variations in signaling inflammatory markers, greatly affect progression or severity disease. Despite established significance microbiome-nutrient-metabolite interplay associations CVDs, unexplored terrain gut-heart-oral axis has risen a critical knowledge gap. Moreover, pivotal role microbiome complex host genetics, compounded age-related changes, emerges an area vital importance development MI. In addition, distinctive disease susceptibility gender-based ancestral differences, adds crucial insights to association increased Here, we aimed provide overview on interactions (oral gut) major (tobacco alcohol consumption, diet, hypertension gender, aging) MI therapeutic regulation.

Internet of Bio-Nano Things (IoBNT) is envisioned to be a heterogeneous network nanoscale and biological devices, so called (BNTs), communicating via non-conventional means, e.g., molecular communications (MC), in environments, inside human body. The main objective this emerging networking framework enable direct seamless interaction with systems for accurate sensing control their dynamics real time. This close between bio cyber domains unprecedentedly high spatio-temporal resolution expected open up vast opportunities devise novel applications, especially healthcare area, such as intrabody continuous health monitoring. There are, however, substantial challenges overcome if the enormous potential IoBNT realized. These range from developing feasible nanocommunication energy harvesting techniques BNTs handling big data generated by IoBNT. In survey, we attempt provide comprehensive overview along its components applications. Food systems worldwide have become industrialized over the past century with impacts on diets, nutrition and health. The trade-offs between affordability higher-quality diets can be exemplified by industrially produced, refined wheat bread. There is substantial demand for designing healthier bread, host-microbiota commensalism has emerged as a key factor in food product development aiming to deliver health benefits. Based pre-clinical clinical studies, this review provides an overview of main strategies healthy bread from microbiota perspective. We also discuss how microbiota-based precision harnessed design tailored specific individuals or populations. In addition being important source dietary fiber phytochemicals, largest contributor intake common additives countries consuming Western-like ramifications disease via gut microbiota. Pre-clinical small-scale studies suggest that use alternative grains, supplementation induce functional properties sourdough fermentation hold great potential reducing risk factors associated diet-related non-communicable diseases modulating Nevertheless, ingredients formulated may need applied targeted individual-specific manner expected benefits avoid potentially detrimental consequences. Overall, we identify major knowledge gaps research opportunities developing gut-friendly breads scientifically validated

Endometriosis (EMS) is a disease characterized by estrogen-dependent, chronic inflammatory, and annoying symptoms, which inflicts about 10% reproductive-age women. The diagnosis of endometriosis mainly depends on pathological examination after surgical resection while the pathogenesis EMS not clear enough. Surgical drug therapy (including painkillers hormone therapy, especially gonadotropin-releasing analogs, GnRH-a) are widely used, but they expensive have many side effects. There few studies vaginal microorganisms in women with endometriosis. We collected secretions from confirmed pathology demonstrated that were different healthy 16s rRNA high-throughput sequencing. Additionally, we established model female mice intraperitoneally injecting fragments donor (3-week growth). Then, treated mixed antibiotics (vagina) NF-κB signaling pathway inhibitors (intraperitoneal injection), respectively. result suggested ectopic lesions inhibited. In addition, inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α peritoneal fluid, cell proliferation marker ki-67, macrophage Iba-1 decreased significantly mock mice. also observed similar results as above microbiota transplantation (VMT) subcutaneous injection leuprorelin acetate (LA, one for EMS. These showed use or VMT helpful to treat However, due great difference between human mouse microbiota, its mechanism clinical transformation application still need be further studied future.
