Epidemiological and translational data increasingly implicate environmental pollutants in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Indeed, the global incidence of IBD has been rising, particularly developing countries, parallel with increased use chemicals synthetic materials daily life escalating pollution levels. Recent nationwide ecological studies have reported associations between agricultural pesticides IBD, Crohn’s disease. Exposure to other chemical categories also linked an risk IBD. To synthesise available identify knowledge gaps, we conducted a systematic review human that on impact outcomes. Furthermore, summarised vitro animal investigating mechanisms underlying these associations. The 32 included corroborate heavy transition metals, except zinc, air pollutants, per- polyfluorinated substances, are associated exposure being disease-related adverse outcomes as well. narrative preclinical suggests several overlapping associations, including intestinal permeability, systemic inflammation dysbiosis. Abstract Background The incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is rising worldwide, but epidemiological data on children and adolescents are lacking. Understanding the global burden IBD among essential for standardization methodology treatment options. Methods This a cross-sectional study based aggregated data. We estimated prevalence in between 1990 2019 according to Global Burden Disease Study (GBD 2019). Age-standardized rates (ASRs) annual percentage changes (EAPCs) were used compare trends different regions countries. Results In 2019, there 25,659 new cases 88,829 prevalent globally, representing an increase 22.8% 18.5%, respectively, compared 1990. Over past 30 years, have been highest high SDI regions, with most significant increases East Asia high-income Pacific. At age level, significantly higher 15–19-year-old group, while < 5-year-old group showed prevalence. Conclusion rise some countries will remain important public health issue extensive healthcare economic costs future. reported at global, regional, national levels assist development more precise policies.

The management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) aims to control inflammation through the use immunosuppressive treatments that target various points in cascade. However, efficacy these therapies long term is limited, and they often are associated severe side effects. Although pathophysiology not completely understood, IBD regarded as a multifactorial occurs due an inappropriate immune response genetically susceptible individuals. gut microbiome considered one main actors development IBD. Gut dysbiosis, characterised by significant changes composition functionality microbiota, leads reduction bacterial diversity anti-inflammatory anaerobic bacteria. At same time, bacteria pro-inflammatory potential increase. upon biological agent usage have been observed, their role biomarkers still unclear. While most studies on focus intestinal population, recent highlighted importance other microbial populations, such viruses fungi, dysbiosis. In order modulate aberrant IBD, researchers developed different players microbiome. These innovative approaches hold promise for future treatment, although safety concerns limitations, effects humans remain unknown.

Abstract To achieve immune and microbial homeostasis during adulthood, the developing system must learn to identify which microbes tolerate defend against. How such ‘immune education’ unfolds remains a major knowledge gap. We address this gap by synthesizing existing literature develop mechanistic mathematical model representing interplay between gut ecology adaptive immunity in early life. Our results indicate that inflammatory tone of microenvironment is mediator information flow from pre- post-weaning periods. evaluate power postnatal fecal samples for predicting immunological trajectories explore breastfeeding scenarios when maternal conditions affect breastmilk composition. work establishes quantitative basis ’immune education’, yielding insights into questions applied relevance.

Objective In utero exposure to maternal inflammation may impact immune system development and subsequent risk of disease. We investigated whether a diagnosis IBD before childbirth is linked higher in offspring compared with after childbirth. Further, we analysed paternal status for comparison. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, is considered significant global health concerns worldwide. Many studies have demonstrated that environmental dietary factors influence the gut microbiota, which in turn orchestrates host immune responses. These interactions are also involved complex metabolic processes contribute to pathogenesis of IBD. Furthermore, recent genomics metabolomics unveiled intricate relationship between microbial influencers epigenetics. The dynamics microbiota its metabolites intricately align with DNA methylation, histone lactylation, glycosylation, non-coding RNAs, key players Here, we summarize discuss interplay among epigenetics, factors, their impact on highlight importance multi-omics technologies dissecting host-microbe IBD, potentially offering a framework for developing effective treatment strategies.
