Ecosystem degradation has become a significant global environmental issue. Particularly in the south hilly regions, necessity for ecological restoration is increasingly evident. This study takes Shiyan City Hubei Province as an example and adopts combination of extensive questionnaire surveys field interviews to deeply analyze farmers’ perceptions factors influencing ecosystem restoration. research fills gap current studies at local level. The results show that (1) farmers generally believe government policy support natural resource protection are crucial restoration, with average score 4.4, indicating strong willingness participate. (2) There positive relationship among human consciousness, social governance, regulation. Human consciousness not only directly enhances level governance but also promotes effectiveness regulation through governance. (3) impact between economic benefits green economy confirmed, requirement creates development opportunities farmers. emphasizes importance constructing multi-party participation strategy Policymakers should focus on education, support, incentives stimulate enthusiasm achieve sustainable management. provides theoretical basis practices offers important reference promoting regional development. Abstract For both research and practice, it is paramount to understand what, where when agri-environmental policies have been put in place. Here we present a database of 6,124 implemented between 1960 2022 about 200 countries. The comprises wide range policy types (including regulations payment schemes) goals (such as biodiversity conservation, safer pesticide use reducing nutrient pollution). We illustrate the application by exploring association economic development soil-related, countries their border discontinuities cropland erosion. A strong, positive link revealed, found that 43% all global soil erosion can be explained differences policies.

Transformative change is needed to align common small‐scale ecological restoration approaches with expectations restore millions of hectares degraded lands globally. Currently, most projects target small areas using costly manual methods that cannot be scaled up meet global commitments. We propose a judicious integration agricultural practices into offers an opportunity address this issue. This transformative process relies on three sequential and interconnected steps: (1) ensure sufficient land truly available for restoration; (2) compensate the loss production, income, or value encourage landholders opt (3) develop scalable, affordable, effective restoring native ecosystems across pledged hundreds deliver benefits both nature people. Protecting the world's remaining forests is a global policy priority. Even though value of in nature, much protection has to come from national policies. Here, we combine global, high resolution remote sensing data on forest outcomes (tree-cover loss, degradation, net primary production) and two complementary econometric research designs for causal inference first quantify how it matters which country located, secondly, role public policies, third, under conditions such pubic policies tend be most successful. We find considerable border discontinuities remotely sensed around world (in regression discontinuity design) these are largely explained by countries' (using differences-in-discontinuities design). estimate that reduce risk tree cover loss almost 4 percentage points globally, but there large variation this. Human actions can damage the ecosystems and affect services depending on them, with ample detrimental consequences. In earlier studies, Conservation Use Potential (PCU) framework proved useful in assessing capacity for aquifer recharge, suitable land uses resistance to erosion at river basin scale. On other hand, joint analysis of PCU allowed identifying adequacy current relation suitability (natural uses) various basins. This was especially from management perspective basins environmental conflicts, where differed suitability, because indicated how conflicts should be mitigated. Besides use as tool, has potential shed light over issues such ecosystem services, but that not tempted so far. The aim this work therefore bridge knowledge gap frame PCU's application standpoint Ecosystem Services (ES) assessment. We demonstrated could used improve provision (recharge), support (sustainable agriculture) regulation (resistance erosion) a specific (the Upper Rio das Velhas basin, located Minas Gerais, Brazil), through planning uses. These classes occur steep slopes, fragile soils lithologies high denudation low nutrient supply dominate basin. urban sprawl negative impact all ES, while maintaining agricultural areas appropriate effectively regulate erosion. Abstract Land restoration and sustainable land management projects have now been proposed for up to a billion hectares globally, responding continuous degradation processes. But, lack of reliable cost estimates hinders implementation, which results in high perceived risk investments. This study addresses this gap, using data from 243 multiple sources estimate the ranges different types more precisely. The analysis shows median costs vary 185 $US/ha 3012 depending on measure, implying current global commitment 0.04%–0.27% annual GDP implement. Since majority these commitments are made by developing countries, international cost‐sharing mechanisms, through climate or private finance, required move goal setting implementation.
