The influx of digital platforms into the mobility sector has created a myriad new forms services in urban transport. The proliferation raises questions regarding public actors' strategic planning capacities times platformisation. In this paper, focus is directed towards Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) as an example platformisation taking place setting where actors have (in theory) had opportunity to influence platform developments relation and planning.Based on qualitative research pilot project for MaaS Stockholm region, aim paper provide insights relationship between planning.More specifically, we discuss how local regional organisations with responsibilities transport land-use navigate respond ongoing mobility, from perspective. The analysis shows that generally frame beyond their sphere responsibility.Consequently, there risk do not central governance dilemmas poses. Our findings also suggest working through lens forefronts practical implementation over long-term questions.

Solar energy takes many varied forms in and beyond the urban infrastructure. Compared to large-scale plants, small-scale solar have received little attention, yet arguably hold more hope for just transitions by serving local needs close demand while distributing benefits locally. These mark contingent outcomes of struggles against rigid bureaucracies infrastructure, thus constitute interface between distributed generation electricity distribution end-use, which are traditionally highly-regulated domains. Small-scale plants new interventions built environments imbued with historical cultural meaning shaped sociotechnical practices use everyday life cities their peripheral spaces. This paper draws on comparative visual ethnographies development Jaipur Jodhpur (in Rajasthan, India) Lisbon (Portugal). Through engagement take within fabric these financially-constrained contexts, I argue that faces intractable structural barriers limit its potential rapidly scaling contributions transitions. intrinsic sectoral political economies require not techno-economic but institutional step-change, ecology can help inform catalyse.

While the role of cities and regions is increasingly acknowledged for climate action discussed in literature on sustainability transitions, specific condition peripheral has received less attention. This article develops a bibliometric review to shed light discuss how (multi-dimensional) notion periphery been conceived implicitly declinate different streams studying low-carbon transitions at sub-national level. studies explicitly addressing issues peripherality are still scarce, identifies four critical dimensions that contribute frame structural bottlenecks opportunities: socio-spatial unevenness, asset fragility, network positionality agency multi-scalar embeddedness transition policies. At interface urban regional transitions’ research, these open up new research challenges trading zones ahead navigating troubled waters transitions.

As global decarbonisation pressures grow, so do calls for ‘just transition’. Urban and regional governments are exploring what this means their jurisdictions. This article investigates how urban policy makers make sense of just transition, the implications its understanding in policy. We adopt Q-methodology to examine sensemaking stakeholders a UK industrial region, producing new analytical conception through conceptualisation, contextualisation operationalisation. allows interrogation unsettled concepts like transition translated into legible entities. found participants wrestled resolve with path-dependent narratives, reaching existing discourses modify transition. moved different stages narratives layered up, reducing transformative potential. Collectively, these suggest openness as logic but challenge embed transformational approaches. Cognitive cultural dependencies central our findings point specific ways manifest.

Abstract This paper assesses the National Recovery and Resilience Plans (NRRPs) of EU member states regions to uncover commonalities differences between green digital transitions, focusing on role institutions, among additional socio‐economic drivers, in modeling them. To that end, relevant indicators have been assembled, several econometric models developed tested evaluate institutional performance relation transformations. The study reveals discrepancies two explored transition fields highlights power factors boosting Specifically, findings demonstrate is positively associated with variables such as life expectancy, quality, tertiary education attainment, small medium enterprises (SMEs) innovative activities, while fruits digitalization are mainly allied population higher studies, core creative class employment, accountability SMEs. These insights offer valuable guidance for decision‐makers draw lessons from high‐performing or successful strategically assign resources. includes paying attention regional financial allocations their alignment territorial planning long‐term policies.

This article critically interrogates the over-emphasis upon urban solutions when considering complex and multi-scalar energy infrastructures that must transition to low-carbon intensity for a sustainable future. While actors can play an important role in transition, their interventions are riven with difficulties, at times failure, as they encounter challenges of politics, capacity agency broader governance landscape. Drawing comparative variegated political economies infrastructure Germany UK, this makes three critical arguments. Firstly, it contends patterns ownership key infrastructures, particularly highly privatised context UK but also Germany’s more diversified market, trouble urban-level interventions. Secondly, against backdrop post-financial crash austerity, we raise issue level, principally concerning financing technical administration infrastructural ‘solutions’. Thirdly, entrenched politics neoliberalisation, its articulations particular discourses marketisation competition, while distinct across two contexts, shape possibilities, imaginaries support available local-level change infrastructures. The points differential capacities conditions require greater degree nuance sustainability narratives, conversation around need coordination transitions, order avert catastrophic climate breakdown.
