Unpacking Value Creation Dynamics in Journalism Education. A Covid-19 Case Study

The
physical
closure
of
universities
and
university
colleges
due
to
Covid-19
has
accelerated
the
digitalization
journalism
teaching
a
record
speed.
pandemic,
severe
restrictions
on-campus
attendance,
radically
altered

schools'
value
proposition

students,
turning
practical
journalistic
skills
primarily
into
forced
blended
learning
experience.
This
study,
through
proposing
conceptual
model
for
unpacking
creation
dynamics
in
education,
explores
this
shift
how
students
responded
it.
We
find,
applying
multiplatform
course
at
bachelor
level,
that
online
environment
was
experienced
as
being
inferior
teaching,
despite
availability
flexible
digital
resources
could
use
convenience.
Ample
opportunities
interaction
between
teachers
were
not
satisfactory
substitute
campus
teaching.

This
study
explores
how
journalism
students

one
Canadian
post-secondary
programme
perceived
their
training
through
the
pandemic.

on
pedagogy
literature,
Bourdieu's
field
theory,

Zelizer's
conceptualisation
of
interpretive
communities
to
interrogate
remote
learning
disrupted
opportunities
for
socialisation

interviews
with
students,
we
identify
shared
narratives
