Surrogate broodstock technology facilitates the production of donor-derived gametes in surrogates, and comprises transplanting germ cells a donor into recipients different strain or species. The following applications this are expected field aquaculture: (1) efficient reliable offspring carrying superior genetic traits by from single selected fish with many recipient fish; (2) reduction time required to breed using species short generation produce long time; (3) long-term storage valuable strains as resources cryopreserving for transplantation; (4) mass genetically sterile that is due mutation somatic normal without mutation. It combination these techniques will greatly accelerate breeding aquaculture important adapt surrogate wider range fishery further improve efficiency gamete when broodstock.

Selective breeding has been successfully applied to improve profitability and sustainability in numerous aquatic species. Recent developments of high throughput genotyping technology now enable the implementation genomic selection, a method aiming predict value candidates based on their genotype at genome-wide markers. In this review article, we state arts, challenges prospects for application selection aquaculture The particular focus is status several major species International Council Exploration Sea (ICES) member countries: Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout, cod, American catfish, Pacific oyster, European sea bass gilthead bream. While potential clear, tailored species-specific applications will be needed maximise its benefit sector.

Abstract Bivalve molluscs are very nutritious and an important source of human animal protein. To date, bivalve farming has contributed to about 15% the mean per capita protein intake approximate 1.5 billion people around world. Unfortunately, effects climate change, mainly global warming ocean acidification, have had many deleterious on aquaculture, not only leading mass mortalities bivalves in farms hatcheries, but also causing collapse natural populations. In response recurrent farmed bivalves, selective breeding programmes been launched with goal reducing mortality rate caused by disease outbreaks changing conditions. This article reviews progress potential edible context change. It is clear from literature that terms environmental sensitivity, resistance tolerance, great for improving robustness significant heritability genetic gain. Because change a complex trait affected multiple genes, application modern genomic tools expected dramatically enhance accuracy efficacy improvements produce strains robust The information this useful guidance adaptation strategies climate‐smart aquaculture solutions be implemented hatcheries farms.

The infraorder Brachyura (true or short-tailed crabs) represents a successful group of marine invertebrates yet with limited genomic resources. Here we report chromosome-anchored reference genome and transcriptomes the Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis, catadromous invasive species wide environmental tolerance, strong osmoregulatory capacity high fertility. We show expansion specific gene families in crab, including F-ATPase, which enhances our knowledge on adaptive plasticity this species. Our analysis spatio-temporal E. sinensis other decapods shows that brachyurization development is associated down-regulation Hox genes at megalopa stage when tail shortening occurs. A better understanding molecular mechanism regulating sexual achieved by integrated multiple omics. These resources significantly expand repertoire Brachyura, provide insights into biology group, Crustacea general.

Abstract Novel genome editing techniques allow for efficient and targeted improvement of aquaculture stock might be a solution to solve challenges related disease environmental impacts. This review has retrieved the latest research on aquacultured finfish species, exploring technological progress scope. Genome most often been used Nile tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus Linnaeus), followed by Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar Linnaeus). More than half studies have focused developing solutions challenges, while rest can characterized as basic fish genetics/physiology or technology development. Main traits researched are reproduction development, growth, pigmentation, resistance, use trans‐GFP study omega‐3 metabolism, respectively. There is certain correlation between species identified their commercial relevance, indicating relevance present aquaculture. Reviewing geographical origin research, China in forefront (29 publications), United States (9) Norway (7). The seems not dependent regulative conditions respective countries, but merely purpose objectives technologies. Some technical barriers presented together with overcome these‐off‐target effects, ancestral duplication mosaicism F0. One contribution more sustainable aquaculture, where prominent issues that contribute minimizing impact biodiversity.

Major progress has been made with genomic and genetic studies in aquaculture the last decade. However, research on epigenetic regulation of traits is still at an early stage. It apparent that most, if not all, are regulated both levels. This paper reviews recent understanding important such as growth, reproduction, disease resistance, stress responses. Although it challenging to make generalized statements, DNA methylation mostly correlated down-regulation gene expression, especially when promoters enhancers. As such, growth factors their receptors negatively growth; hypomethylation genes for tolerance increased tolerance; male or female sex differentiation leads into males females, respectively. environmental mediated level regulation, environment-induced changes appeared be intergenerationally inherited, but evidences transgenerational inheritance limited.

Abstract Genomic resources are increasingly being used to improve the production efficiency and profitability of aquaculture. Crustaceans a large group invertebrates that encompasses some most important farmed species in aquaculture industry. However, very few crustacean genomes have been published although an genome project was proposed as early 1997. Breakthroughs next‐generation third‐generation sequencing technologies development high‐complexity sequence assembly strategies promoted publication increasing number genomes, thus paving broad way for biological genetic studies applications In this review, we summarize recent advances genomic research June 2022, including assembly, characteristics, mechanisms underlying various phenotypes, such environmental adaptation, lifestyle, development, sex determination. This review also discusses application aquaculture, dissection economic traits genome‐based selective breeding via genome‐wide association selection. High‐quality not only understanding basis biologically economically but improvement species. utilization genomics still lags far behind those other animals.
