Abstract Several studies show a positive association between the rise of obesity in developing countries and globalization, trade, food but most do not account for reverse causality prevalence trade flows. Moreover, adopt broad definitions notwithstanding main effects on may pass through import specific foods. We address these concerns by empirically investigating impact sample 116 (2000–2016) focusing, particularly, processed sugar‐rich food. This is done controlling other globalization‐related factors correcting bias stemming from potential two‐step approach instrumenting with average height adult population. One robust conclusion emerges: it neither economic cultural globalization nor general import, rather food, which contributes to increase obesity.

The COVID-19 pandemic placed unprecedented strain on global healthcare systems, highlighting the need to identify critical determinants of disease severity and develop predictive models for resource optimization. This study aimed most significant factors influencing severity, analyze comorbidity patterns, machine learning predicting severe outcomes. Using a dataset 1,000 patients, demographic, clinical, medical history data were analyzed. Comorbidities such as COPD (96.3%), chronic renal (92.6%), cardiovascular issues (93.9%), diabetes (69.9%) found be highly prevalent among cases. Over half patients required ICU admission (51.1%) or ventilator support (54.5%), indicating impact symptoms systems. Four decision tree, logistic regression, random forest, AdaBoost evaluated accuracy using 20-80 ratio 10-fold cross-validation. In ratio, regression emerged effective models, achieving 77.00% accuracy, with excelling in precision at 79.84% specificity 91.75%, Logistic Regression providing highest sensitivity 67.96% balanced predictions. average results across all folds follows: Decision Tree was 65.80%, Random Forest 72.40%, 75.40%, 75.50%. These findings underscore importance comorbidities determining demonstrate utility modeling optimizing resources. concludes that tailored interventions high-risk learning-driven allocation strategies can enhance efficiency during pandemics.
