Abstract Background and objectives Virtual reality dental simulators as an educational tool may create specific training conditions for students, allowing them to practice skills in a safe controlled condition. This study aimed investigate the effectiveness of virtual reality-based education compared traditional approaches. Methods In this systematic review, four databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web Science, Science Direct) were searched until 2023 following PRISMA guidelines. The Quality assessment risk bias assessed by Cochrane Collaboration Tool RCTs GRADE, respectively. Inclusion criteria restricted randomized or quasi-randomized trials about efficacy education. Two authors independently evaluated data reviewed overall all selected studies. Study design, sample size, hardware, onset time intervention, duration, number procedures performed among extracted. Results From 703 titles, 48 full texts chosen yielding 14 articles final inclusion. review these indicated effective role improving students' knowledge practical skills. Conclusions Based on our findings, adding haptic technology can improve skills, hand theoretical knowledge, self-confidence, learning environment. Although fair amount research needs be done, notably cost-effectiveness, student satisfaction, other potentially adverse effects, is growing phenomenon with immense potential.

ABSTRACT Introduction Dental students are deemed fit to treat patients (clinical readiness) based on their performance in pre‐clinical summative assessments. This involves assessing knowledge (theory exams) and technical skills (simulation‐based activities). Abstract Background Dental education blends theoretical concepts with practical tasks, where preclinical simulations using manikins have long been integral. However, the limitations of manikin-based training, such as cost, material restrictions, and inter-rater reliability concerns, led to integration emerging technologies like Virtual Reality (VR) enhance learning. VR provides an immersive environment practice clinical skills, offering potential flexibility, engagement, tactile learning advantages. This study compares dental students’ perceptions manikin training at Ziauddin University, Karachi. Methodology cross-sectional was conducted University College Dentistry, Karachi, Pakistan, involving 229 students enrolled in various levels BDS program. A structured questionnaire assessed experiences simulation training. Data analyzed SPSS version 22, descriptive statistics independent T-tests evaluate differences perception across student groups. Results Both were effective improving Manikins preferred for realistic scenarios, while favored engagement 68.6% found both methods equally useful reinforcing knowledge, 77.7% felt more confident after 97.4% understanding tooth textures. Conclusion highlights complementary strengths education. should be integrated provide a well-rounded experience. Introduction Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are a group of orofacial conditions characterized by pain and dysfunction the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surrounding musculature. Imaging plays crucial role in diagnosis treatment planning. However, educational content on TMD imaging medical dental curricula has lagged behind recent technological advances. Methods This review analyzes current status education based synthesis literature practices. It highlights discrepancies across institutional evaluates emerging strategies such as interdisciplinary learning, artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted tools, simulation-based training. Results is found to be inconsistent underdeveloped globally, with significant variability curriculum design limited integration modern technologies. Current training programs lack standardized guidelines, resulting knowledge gaps increased risk clinical misjudgment. Early findings suggest that AI simulation tools can enhance outcomes. Discussion To bridge gap between practice technology, standardized, evidence-based framework essential. Future should include interprofessional collaboration, AI-driven diagnostic support, immersive environments. Implementing these measures will enable clinicians accurately interpret improve patient care.
