Decades of research have identified genetic and environmental factors involved in age-related neurodegenerative diseases and, to a lesser extent, neuropsychiatric disorders. Genomic instability, i.e., the loss genome integrity, is common feature among both (mayo-trophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease) psychiatric (schizophrenia, autism, bipolar depression) instability associated with accumulation persistent DNA damage activation response (DDR) pathways, as well pathologic neuronal cell or senescence. Typically, DDR signaling ensures that genomic proteomic homeostasis are maintained dividing cells, including neural progenitors, post-mitotic neurons. However, dysregulation these protective responses, part due aging insults, contributes progressive development and/or In this Special Issue, we introduce highlight overlap between disorders, emerging clinical, genomic, molecular evidence for contributions aberrant repair. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia. AD a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive dysfunction, including learning and memory deficits, behavioral changes. Neuropathology hallmarks such as amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques neurofibrillary tangles containing neuron-specific protein tau associated with changes in fluid biomarkers Aβ, phosphorylated (p-tau)-181, p-tau 231, 217, glial fibrillary acidic (GFAP), neurofilament light (NFL). Another pathological feature neural damage hyperactivation astrocytes, that can cause increased pro-inflammatory mediators oxidative stress. In addition, reduced brain glucose metabolism mitochondrial dysfunction appears up to 15 years before onset clinical symptoms. As utilization compromised patients AD, ketone bodies (KBs) may serve an alternative source energy. KBs are generated from β-oxidation fatty acids, which enhanced following consumption ketogenic diets high fat, moderate protein, low carbohydrate. have been shown cross blood barrier improve energy metabolism. This review comprehensively summarizes current literature on how increasing support for first time, this discusses effects diet putative (mainly 181), GFAP, NFL, role neuroinflammation, stress,

Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) is a natural immunomodulator, anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic, anti-tumour growth and anti-metastasis factor, which can enhance tumour response to PEDF but also conversely have pro-cancerous effects. Inflammation major cause of cancer, it has been proven that anti-inflammatory properties. PEDF’s functional activity be investigated through measuring metastatic metabolic biomarkers will discussed in this review.

Oxidative stress is a crucial factor in the age-related decline physiological, genomic, metabolic, and immunological functions. We screened Lactiplantibacillus plantarum JS19, which has been shown to possess therapeutic properties mice with ulcerative colitis. In this study, L. JS19 used as adjunct starter culture fermented goat milk (LAF) was employed alleviate d-galactose-induced aging regulate intestinal flora an mouse model. The oral administration of LAF effectively improved health spleen kidney mice, while mitigating hepatocyte oxidative damage induced by d-galactose. Additionally, alleviated dysbiosis reducing abundance harmful bacteria Desulfovibrio Helicobacter, greatly promoting growth beneficial Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group Eubacterium. Biomarker 5-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid found be positively linked those bacteria, whereas bio-active metabolites were strongly correlated genus. These observations suggest that possesses capability mitigate effects model through regulation stress, gut microbiota composition, levels fecal metabolites. Consequently, these findings shed light on potential functional food antiaging properties.
