Objective Chronic hypercortisolism leads to a phenotype resembling metabolic syndrome. We aimed investigate the association between gut microbiota and abnormalities in endogenous (Cushing’s syndrome). Methods A total of 23 patients with Cushing’s syndrome (18 female 5 men, aged 47.24 ± 12.99 years) 30 age-, sex-and BMI-matched healthy controls 12 45.03 6.69 were consecutively recruited. Differences plasma short-chain fatty acid (SCFAs) concentrations analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Results Compared controls, Simpson Pielou indices α diversity dramatically decreased ( P < 0.05). The community structure differed significantly controls. bacterial communities enriched Proteobacteria Escherichia-Shigella , depleted Firmicutes including Agathobacter Blautia Anaerostipes Eubacterium_eligens_group Lachnospira . Spearman analysis demonstrated that HbA1c, SBP, DBP, cortisol levels positively correlated whereas negatively Agathobacter, Blautia, Anaerostipes, Eubacterium_hallii_group, etc. also had lower propionic concentration (0.151±0.054 vs. 0.205±0.032 µg/mL, =0.039) than Furthermore, level was systolic pressure <0.05). Conclusion Gut dysbiosis observed Cushing’s, suggesting may be potential therapeutic intervention target improve hypercortisolism-related abnormalities.

Abstract Differences in the average age at cancer diagnosis are observed across countries. We therefore aimed to assess international variation median of common cancers worldwide, after adjusting for differences population structure. used IARC's Cancer Incidence Five Continents (CI5) Volume XI database, comprising diagnoses between 2008 and 2012 from population‐based registries 65 calculated crude ages lung, colon, breast prostate each country, then adjusted using indirect standardization. showed that changed by up 10 years standardization, typically increasing low‐ middle‐income countries (LMICs) decreasing high‐income (HICs), given relatively younger older populations, respectively. After range was 12 lung (median 61‐Bulgaria vs 73‐Bahrain), colon (60‐the Islamic Republic Iran 72‐Peru), female (49‐Algeria, Iran, Korea 59‐USA others) (65‐USA, Lithuania 75‐Philippines). Compared HICs, populations LMICs were diagnosed with but (both p LMICS‐vs‐HICs < 0.001). In higher smoking prevalence, both women men corr Female tended be East Asia, Middle Africa. Our findings suggest worldwide likely reflect population‐level risk factors control measures, including screening.
