Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) is a lipid with anti-inflammatory activity that modulates multiple reward-related behaviors. Previous studies have shown OEA treatment reduces alcohol self-administration (SA) while inhibiting alcohol-induced inflammatory signaling. Nevertheless, the specific mechanisms targets to achieve these effects not been widely explored. Here, we tested of during SA, extinction or previous cue-induced reinstatement seeking. In addition, measured gene expression changes in striatum and hippocampus relevant receptors for consumption (Drd1, Drd2, Cnr1, Oprm) as well immune-related proteins (Il-6, Il-1β, Tlr4) brain-derived neurotrophic factor (Bdnf). Our results confirmed when administered contingently, systemic administration reduced SA attenuated reinstatement. Interestingly, also observed number sessions needed Biochemical analyses showed induced dopamine cannabinoid hippocampus. modulated long-term immune response increased Bdnf expression. These suggest boosting levels may be an effective strategy reducing preventing relapse.
