Optical materials transparent in the CO₂ laser wavelength range have been evaluated regarding their suitability for components ultrashort-pulse (≤ a few ps), high-peak-power (≥ TW) long-wave infrared (LWIR) lasers. We provide values nonlinear refractive index (n₂) seventeen materials, and thresholds absorption eleven materials. Characterizations were performed using 2 ps pulse at λ = 9.2 μm. This paper methodically presents newly acquired data conjunction with existing literature on linear optical properties, establishing it as comprehensive reference designing LWIR systems.

Abstract We introduce the refractiveindex.info database, a comprehensive open-source repository containing optical constants for wide array of materials, and describe in detail underlying dataset. This collection, derived from meticulous compilation data sourced peer-reviewed publications, manufacturers’ datasheets, authoritative texts, aims to advance research optics photonics. The is stored using YAML-based format, ensuring integrity, consistency, ease access. Each record accompanied by detailed metadata, facilitating understanding efficient utilization data. In this descriptor, we outline curation protocols file format used records, briefly demonstrate how can be organized user-friendly fashion akin books traditional library.

This study presents a novel way to increase the energy conversion efficiency of optical parametric amplification by eliminating idler wave from interaction using consecutive type-I and type-II processes. By aforementioned straightforward approach wavelength tunable narrow-bandwidth with exceptionally high 40% peak pump-to-signal 68% pump depletion was achieved in short-pulse regime, while preserving beam quality factor less than 1.4. The same layout can also serve as an enhanced scheme.

We report on dispersion management in mid-IR optical parametric chirped pulse amplifiers (OPCPA) aiming for high-energy few-cycle pulses beyond 4 µm. The available shapers this spectral region limit the feasibility of sufficient higher-order phase control. Intending generation high energy at 12 µm via DFG driven by signal and idler a midwave-IR OPCPA, we introduce alternative approaches shaping, namely germanium-prism pair sapphire-prism Martinez compressor. Furthermore, explore limits bulk compression Si Ge multi-mJ energies.

We propose a simple method to measure nonlinear Kerr refractive index in mid-infrared frequency range that avoids using sophisticated infrared detectors. Our approach is based on near-infrared probe beam which interacts with mid-IR via wavelength-non-degenerate cross-phase modulation (XPM). By carefully measuring XPM-induced spectral modifications the and comparing experimental data simulation results, we extract value for non-degenerate index. Finally, order obtain of degenerate index, use well-established two-band formalism Sheik-Bahae et al., shown become particularly limit low frequencies. The proposed technique complementary conventional techniques, such as z-scan, has advantage not requiring any
