Mangrove restoration involves complex decision-making processes and can often lack adequate stakeholder engagement empowerment to inform effective outcomes. Decision science has the potential overcome such challenges by facilitating structured approaches make informed, participatory, defensible decisions through use of decision-support frameworks tools. Mangroves stand out as one of the most diverse and biologically significant natural systems in world. Playing critical roles maintaining health productivity coastal ecosystems, mangroves provide a range services functions, including habitat for local fauna flora, food other goods, carbon sequestration, protection from disasters such storm surges erosion. It is also evident that face several threats, which have already led to gradual depletion mangrove areas worldwide. Based on analysis current related historical literature data, this review summarises functions threats challenges associated with management practices. Our findings suggest development, expanded aquaculture, deforestation, climate change, implications eutrophication, diseases, pollution are major factors posing sustainability. We highlight various challenges, land use conflict, lack stringent regulatory actions, inadequate policy government frameworks, community awareness, underlie ineffective management. The implementation inclusive coordinated approaches involving stakeholders different backgrounds interests, governmental non-governmental organisations, academia essential restoration sustainable by adapting mitigation strategies.

The Lower Mekong Region (LMR) faces significant loss of mangrove forests, yet limited studies have explored this decline in the region. Here, we employ Google Earth Engine and Landsat satellite imagery to assess changes forest cover across Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia between 1989 2020, with a five-year interval. Accordingly, estimated carbon stock due cover. Our analysis yielded an overall average accuracy 92.10% kappa coefficient 0.89 four countries. findings reveal 0.9% increase area 2.5% 1.3% Cambodia, while Vietnam experienced 0.2% annually 2020. ABSTRACT Mangrove forests are typically considered resilient to natural disturbances, likely caused by the evolutionary adaptation of species‐specific traits. These ecosystems play a vital role in global carbon cycle and responsible for an outsized contribution burial enhanced sedimentation rates. Using eddy covariance data from two coastal mangrove Florida Coastal Everglades, we evaluated impact hurricanes have on forest structure function measuring recovery pre‐disturbance conditions following Hurricane Wilma 2005 Irma 2017. We determined “recovery debt,” deficit ecosystem disturbance, using leaf area index (LAI) net exchange (NEE) dioxide (CO 2 ). Calculated as cumulative deviation conditions, debt incorporated recapture all lost due disturbance. In Everglades forests, LAI returned levels within year, respiration maximum photosynthetic rates took much longer, resulting initial 178 g C m −2 at tall with limited impacts scrub forest. At landscape scale, was 0.40 Mt C, most recovered just 4 years. While high‐intensity storms could prolonged subtropical fast canopy suggests these will remain strong sinks.

The climate crisis poses a grave threat to numerous small island developing states (SIDS), intensifying risks from extreme weather events and sea level rise (SLR). This vulnerability heightens the dangers of coastal erosion, chronic water quality degradation, dwindling resources, demanding global attention. resultant loss ecological persistence, functional services, ecosystem resilience jeopardizes protection against wave action SLR, endangering habitats’ economic value, food security, infrastructure, livelihoods. Implementing integrated strategies is imperative. A thorough discussion available best management practices for restoration presented in context SIDS needs, threats, major constraints. Solutions must encompass enhanced green infrastructure (coral reefs, seagrass meadows, mangroves/wetlands, urban shorelines), sustainable development practices, circular economy principles, adoption policies. requires securing creative funding, promoting job creation, fostering local stakeholder engagement. Tailored each island’s reality, solutions overcome socio-economic, logistical, political obstacles. Despite challenges, timely opportunities exist habitat change adaptation Integrated spanning disciplines stakeholders necessitate significant will.
