ABSTRACT
Olfaction
is
a
critical
sensory
modality
for
invertebrates,
and
it
mediates
wide
range
of
behaviors
physiological
processes.
Like
most
living
organisms,
insects
live
in
rhythmic
environments:
the
succession
nights
days
accompanied
by
cyclic
variations
light
intensity
temperature,
as
well
availability
resources
activity
predators.
Responding
to
olfactory
cues
proper
temporal
context
thus
highly
adaptive
allows
efficient
allocation
energy
resources.
Given
agricultural
or
epidemiological
importance
some
insect
species,
understanding
rhythms
development
effective
control
strategies.
Although
vinegar
fly
Drosophila
melanogaster
has
been
classical
model
study
olfaction
circadian
rhythms,
recent
studies
focusing
on
non-model
species
have
expanded
our
rhythms.
Additionally,
evidence
revealing
receptor
co-expression
neurons
brought
about
an
ongoing
paradigm
shift
olfaction,
making
timely
review
state
knowledge
identify
future
directions
field.
In
this
Review,
we
discuss
multiple
biological
scales
at
which
are
being
analyzed,
outstanding
questions.
