Quantifying food intake in Drosophila is used to study the genetic and physiological underpinnings of consumption-associated traits, their environmental factors, toxicological pharmacological effects numerous substances. Few methods currently implemented are amenable high throughput measurement. The Microplate Feeder Assay (MFA) was developed for quantifying consumption liquid individual flies using absorbance. In this assay, consume medium from select wells a 1536-well microplate. By incorporating dilute tracer dye into loading known volume each well, absorbance measurements well acquired before after reflect resulting change (i.e., consumed). To enable analysis with method, 3D-printed coupler designed that allows be sorted individually 96-well microplates. This device precisely orients 96- microplates give fly access up 4 consumption, thus enabling preference quantification addition regular consumption. Furthermore, has barrier strips toggle between open closed positions allow controlled containment release column samples at time. method enables aqueous solutions by many simultaneously. Abstract Toxic baits comprising a combination of food attractants and toxicant could contribute to the control spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae), major invasive pest soft fruit berries. Laboratory cage experiments revealed that flies both sexes were significantly more attracted dried red droplets 0.3% sucrose solution likely consume red‐coloured compared blue, green or colourless droplets. Flies showed tendency feed on placed floor rather than presented upside‐down roof side‐wall. When offered commercial insecticides (5–50 parts per million active ingredient) in solution, fly mortality was highest spinosad treatment, lowest abamectin intermediate deltamethrin spinetoram‐based products. Male had higher females. A mixture 25 ppm with 1.3% +1.3% corn syrup glycerol (named 4% mixture) consumed by female any components alone. Addition 1% apple juice resulted an additional increase spinosad‐induced mortality. The medfly Ceratitis capitata is one of the most damaging fruit pests with quarantine significance due to its extremely wide host range. use entomopathogenic fungi constitutes a promising approach potential applications in integrated pest management. Furthermore, developing insect control methods can involve fungal machinery cause metabolic disruption, which may increase effectiveness by impairing development. Insect species, including C. capitata, relies on reproduction potential, nutrient reserves, activities, and immune response for survival. Accordingly, purpose this study was investigate impacts fungus Purpureocillium lilacinum pre-mortality. V8 strain subjected laboratory bioassays, consisted determining virulence P. medfly. applied abdominal topical 5-day-old males females.
