Central Iran supports a diversity of carnivores, most which are threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation. Carnivore conservation requires the identification preservation core habitats ensuring connectivity between them. In present study, we used species distribution modeling to predict suitability linkage (resistant kernel factorial least-cost path analyses) for grey wolf golden jackal in central Iran. For wolf, elevation, topographic ruggedness, distance Conservation Areas (CAs) were strongest predictors; jackal, human settlements, dump sites ruggedness influential variables predicting occurrence this species. Our results also indicated high potential large parts landscape support these two canid The largest crucial corridor paths both located southern part study landscape. We found small overlap with CAs, has important implications future viability populations. Some sections areas bisected roads, where vehicle collisions occurred. To minimize mortality risk, propose that successful will necessitate integrated landscape-level management, as well corridors development mitigation strategies reduce collisions.

Abstract Conservation outside conservation areas (CAs) is more challenging due to increased exposure human‐induced disturbances. Therefore, it important identify and designate new CAs that can protect core wildlife habitat patches, as well key linkages promote connectivity. We performed this study prioritize patches corridors for two semi‐desert sympatric gazelles in Iran (i.e., goitered gazelle Gazella subgutturosa jebeer G. bennettii ) order propose the expansion of existing CAs. used an ensemble distribution modeling approach based on three algorithms (random forest, maximum entropy, generalized boosting models) suitability assessment a combination resistant kernel factorial least‐cost path analysis connectivity modeling. Our results revealed distance CAs, elevation, annual mean temperature were most influential variables predicting species. identified 12 six gazelle, respectively with minimum area 210 km 2 . Core mainly occurred north central basin high priority both protected up half one‐third gazelle. Due disturbances (e.g., vehicle collisions poaching) necessary increase regular monitoring establish gazelles. findings highlight opportunities designating promoting by limiting road impacts.

Desertification alters wildlife distribution by reducing vegetation and water resources that are associated with habitat availability quality. Therefore, in anticipation of these impacts from desertification, it is particularly important to understand compare drivers connectivity change for different species order identify those have the highest conservation concerns needs. Many Iran expected experience substantial changes their as two-thirds country show a high potential desertification. Among species, Rüppell's fox (Vulpes rueppellii) sand cat (Felis margarita) two least known occur sympatrically desert semi-desert ecosystems. Here, we assessed baseline conditions, environmental factors affect conditions species. We found cat's was spatially patchy fragmented, whereas more expansive connected. Although share some same area, our models contrasting influence habitat. For example, suitable relatively warmer, smoother terrain, closer villages. Whereas, fox's cooler, rougher at greater distances away Both occurred areas (i.e., NDVI model) less precipitation. The response temperature suggests sympatric might respond differently warming climate. overlap corridor paths core habitats Conservation Areas (CAs) small. At 75% all predicted corridors remain unprotected both Further, most severely bisected roads. Our findings highlight opportunities designating new promoting limiting road impacts.

Abstract North China leopard ( Panthera pardus japonensis ) is the most widespread subspecies of and one rare endangered species in China. It currently confined to several isolated natural reserves, little known about its habitat network connectivity with land use changes. This study was conducted assess impacts changes on landscape for Great Taihang Region. Circuit theory‐based models least‐cost path analyses were used delineate pathways suitable movement, evaluate connectivity. The results revealed that there 37 paths 1990 38 2020. area forest increased from 57,142.74 km 2 74,836.64 , percentage increasing 26.61% 34.85%. In general, increase promoted at broad spatial scales. improvement not always consistent changes, a slightly decreasing trend some key movement barrier areas high intensity human activities. Improving scales as important protecting habitats (natural reserves) where lives. Our can serve an example exploring relationships between conservation limited pattern data. information proved be critical enhancing concern planning reserves network.

Population or habitat connectivity is a key component in maintaining species and community-level regional biodiversity as well intraspecific genetic diversity. Ongoing human activities cause destruction fragmentation, which exacerbate the due to restricted animal movements across local habitats, eventually resulting loss of biodiversity. The Baekdudaegan Mountain Range (BMR) on Korean Peninsula represents “biodiversity hotspots” eight 22 national parks are located within BMR. Given striped field mouse ( Apodemus agrarius ) most common ecologically important small mammals these protected areas, population assessment this will allow for identifying “genetic diversity also barriers” that may hinder gene flow, therefore inform effective conservation management efforts park habitats. We collected samples from hair, tail, buccal swabs 252 A. individuals 2015 2019. By using mitochondrial DNA cytochrome b cyt sequences nine microsatellite loci, we determined levels diversity, differentiation, flow among populations along found high but occurrences inbreeding all analyzed. Our results indicated there was detectable temporal variation between 2019 Jirisan National Park, probably short-term decline caused by reduced sizes. well-admixed shared pool populations. However, significant positive correlation geographic distances detected only mtDNA not microsatellites, might be attributed different dispersal patterns sexes. There barrier around Woraksan Park areas. poor surrounding areas can improved establishing an ecological corridor. findings presence barriers some provide insights into improve parks.
