During the COVID-19 pandemic, different SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOC) with specific characteristics have emerged and spread worldwide. At same time, clinicians routinely evaluate results certain blood tests upon patient admission as well during hospitalization to assess disease severity overall status. In present study, we searched for significant cell count biomarker differences among patients affected Alpha, Delta Omicron VOCs at admission. Data from 330 were retrieved regarding age, gender, VOC, (WBC, Neut%, Lymph%, Ig%, PLT), common biomarkers (D-dimers, urea, creatinine, SGOT, SGPT, CRP, IL-6, suPAR), ICU death. Statistical analyses performed using ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis test, two-way Chi-square, T-test, Mann-Whitney test logistic regression was where appropriate SPSS v.28 STATA 14. Age VOC significantly associated hospitalization, whereas groups found WBC, PLT, D-dimers suPAR. Our showed that throughout current not only but also laboratory parameters are used patient's status subject changes.

Over the two years that we have been experiencing Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, our challenges race to develop vaccines and difficulties in fighting against new variants due rapid ability of virus evolve. In this sense, different organizations identified classified emerging, distinguishing between concern (VOC), interest (VOI), or under monitoring (VUM). The following review aims describe latest updates focusing on VOC already de-escalated variants, as well impact these had global situation. Understanding intrinsic properties SARS-CoV-2 its interaction with immune system vaccination is essential make out underlying mechanisms led appearance helping determine next steps for better public management pandemic.

The majority of publications regarding SARS-CoV-2 infections in adult patients with acute leukemia (AL) refer to hematological general and are not focused on myeloid (AML) or lymphoblastic (ALL). We herein report a review the current literature AL infected SARS-CoV-2. Overall, SARS-CoV-2-associated mortality ranges from 20-52% AL. AML have particularly high COVID-19-related mortality. Of note, most available data relate pre-vaccination era variants before Omicron. impact COVID-19 treatment is rarely reported. Based few studies available, delay does appear be associated an increased risk relapse, whereas therapy discontinuation was worse outcomes patients. Therefore, recommendations suggest delaying systemic SARS-CoV-2-positive until negativity, if immediate required. It recommended offer vaccination all patients; reported antibody responses around 80-96%. Seronegative should additionally receive prophylactic administration anti-SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal antibodies. Patients treated early antiviral prevent disease progression enable rapid elimination virus.

The association between mean air temperature and new SARS-CoV-2 case numbers throughout the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was investigated to identify whether diverse lineages may exhibit environmental behaviors. number of COVID-19 daily cases in province Verona obtained from Veneto Regional Healthcare Service, whilst during same period retrieved Agency for Ambient Prevention Protection Veneto. A significant inverse correlation found up Omicron BA.1/BA.2 predominance (correlation coefficients -0.79 -0.41). then became positive when BA.4/BA.5 were prevalent (r = 0.32). When median value (and interquartile range; IQR) recorded warmer year (June-July) compared across three years pandemic, a gradual increase could be seen over time, 1 (IQR, 0-2) 2020, 22 11-113) 2021, 890 343-1345) 2022. These results suggest that measures preventing infection should not completely abandoned periods year.
