Abstract Cereus jamacaru DC. occurs in the central-eastern region of Brazil and is among best-known cacti country. Its phytochemical properties fruits hold great significance to local communities. We examined published ethnobotanical studies regarding C. (mandacaru) undertaken between 2000 2024, better understand its traditional uses relationships with human communities Brazil. Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) are an important pathway governance system for area-based conservation led by Peoples. Biodiversity loss can lead to losses in ecological functions, ecosystem services, and cultural values. Yet, literature that empirically relates species' importance is scarce. We investigate tree a settled landscape Canada by combining biophysical plot sampling (n = 122) semi-structured interviews 31). examined relationships between importance, services (benefits from trees), services-to-ecosystems (actions toward the abundance, mortality, modification of trees. found abundance generally correlated with emphasis. Maple was most biophysically abundant culturally important tree, associated greatest diversity services. However, some trees were mentioned disproportionately more frequently than their likely due high mortality case ash apples. Apple linked diverse services-to-ecosystems. Our findings suggest provisioning services-to-ecosystems, which may, turn, influence these genera on landscape. This connection could be potential lever for wider biocultural conservation. study contributes ongoing discussions about highlights understanding human-nature relationships. The results have implications protected area management, suggesting reduced human-tree interactions negatively impact

Abstract Low plant awareness has been described for the general public, academics, and students from elementary to university level. Here we describe proportion of plants in biodiversity inventories conducted by 110 undergraduate enrolled animal-related degrees at a rural Brazilian university. Observations were collected during three practical courses submitted global citizen-science platform. Students predetermined number observations months, which probably contributed similar temporal patterns animal observations. In total, represented 60% plants-to-animals ratio per student was not affected gender. While better represented, most depicted planted urban trees other cultivated or potted plants. Being sessile, are easier observe photograph than animals. Using platform can increase perception as an essential part local biodiversity, building ground conservation.
