Purpose: This study aimed to describe the molecular epidemiology and seasonality of human rhinovirus (HRV) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) its association with COPD exacerbations Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Methods: Sputum specimens were collected for analysis from all patients who visited a medical center November 2021 October 2022. The real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) test was used detect HRV. Results: Of 78 included study, 58 (74%) pa-tients presented one or more exacerbation episodes. incidence peaked over winter substantially decreased during summer. HRV positivity (E1) 11/58 (19%) 15/58 (26%) two weeks after episode (E2). There no significant difference load these patients. No statistically observed detection compared stable COPD. Conclusion: is first assess between by qPCR UAE. high sensitivity detec-tion technology helped collect reliable epidemiologic data. Few studies have provided similar Middle East study's pattern parallels that temperate countries. information can help future, extensive surveillance res-piratory viruses UAE their exacerbations.

Also, to determine frequency of acute before during pandemic on a matched basis. The data this prospective cohort research consisted clinical variables. During first visit, after 14-days, nasopharyngeal swabs were taken quantitative polymerase chain reaction was performed for HRV SARS-CoV-2 detection.Forty-seven out 175 (26.9%) adult cases have been diagnosed asthma. The number exacerbations study participants higher 2021 than 2020 (p=0.035). Most included asthmatic (61.7%) only positive 38.3% co-infected HRV. cycle threshold value lower samples infected both viruses compared alone, p<0.005.Our findings indicate that significantly more prevalent stable Thus, and/or infections potentially cofactors or contributors cohort. This study primarily aimed antibiotic in respiratory samples from patients with using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) determine prevalence specific analyze clinical factors contributing resistance, as well provide actionable insights into patterns Jordan support efforts improve management. retrospective observational included 114 who were diagnosed pneumonia. Clinical data, including prior exposure history, collected. PCR diagnostics used detect samples. In this study, we evaluated 14 pathogens, highlighting their diverse mechanisms. Mec A was most frequently detected gene, appearing 87 (77.3%). Additionally, Tem 80 (70.2%), Oxa-48-like 15 (13.2%), Ctx-M-1 38 (33.3%) among commonly genes. contrast, Oxa-40-like (7.0%), Vim (8.8%), Imp (4.4%) exhibited a lower prevalence. The Oxa-51-like gene showed only significant association ertapenem (p-value = 0.046). Further analysis revealed statistically associations between methicillin (p < 0.001), underscoring its critical role. However, other genes, such Oxa-48-like, no correlation imipenem meropenem > 0.05). demonstrates utility PCR-based for detecting highlights associated These findings underscore importance integrating molecular routine care outcomes combat growing threat Jordan. This research aims to determine acute bronchiolitis’ causative virus(es) and establish a viable protocol classify the Human Rhinovirus (HRV) species. During 2021–2022, we included children 1–24 months of age with bronchiolitis at risk for asthma. The nasopharyngeal samples were taken subjected quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) in viral panel. For HRV-positive samples, high-throughput assay was applied, directing VP4/VP2 VP3/VP1 regions confirm BLAST searching, phylogenetic analysis, sequence divergence took place identify degree which these appropriate identifying differentiating HRV. HRV ranked second, following RSV, as etiology children. conclusion investigation all available data this study distributed sequences into 7 HRV-A, 1 HRV-B, HRV-C types based on sequences. nucleotide between clinical corresponding reference strains lower region than region. results demonstrated potential utility genotypes. Background: Very few cases of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) have been reported in COVID-19 so far, and mostly patients with concomitant HIV infection or solid-organ transplant recipients. Despite being associated lymphopenia the use steroids, there are no studies specifically aimed at investigating risk factors for PJP COVID-19. Methods: A retrospective case-control study was performed. We matched controls a 1:2 ratio, based on age ± 10 years, transplantation (SOT), hematological malignancies, setting development (ICU vs. non-ICU). direct immunofluorescence assay bronchoalveolar lavage fluid used to diagnose PJP. Results: enrolled 54 patients. Among 18 PJP, 16 were diagnosed as “proven”. Seven eighteen immunocompromised, while other had previous immunological impairment. Patients significantly lower median lymphocyte values (p = 0.033), longer duration 0.014), higher dose steroid received 0.026), CRP 0.005), SARS-CoV-2 vaccination rate than 0.029). Non-survivors significantly older than survivors. There a statistically significant exceeding cut-points or even death. These included D-dimer, C-reactive protein, prothrombin time, ferritin, white blood cells, neutrophil count, aspartate aminotransferase, creatinine, urea nitrogen, lymphocyte albumin. Also, showed high odds highest ratio reported for albumin <3.5 g/dL (OR=14.318 [4.784-42.851], p<0.001).The could effectively be used as predictors assess risk improve management patients.

Data regarding clinical background, modalities, activity indicators RA at PCP (baseline), 6 months 12 were extracted. Of 37 RA-PCP (median age, 69 years; 73% female), chemical prophylaxis was administered 8.1%. Six died during treatment. The serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels prednisolone (PDN) dose baseline death group significantly higher than those survivor group. Multivariate analysis using a Cox regression model showed that PDN predictor from RA. During baseline, decreased. A high corticosteroids may result poor prognosis when is complicated. This study, based Jordan, aimed to describe association between lung exacerbation CF patients respiratory microbiome composition. Using 16S rRNA marker-gene sequencing, we investigated microbiota sputa during (E1) 14 days after (E2) of two admitted hospital. Detected genera with high abundance E1-related first patient included Achromobacter Streptococcus. At E2, Staphylococcus were highest abundant genera. Regarding second patient, Veillonella Streptococcus, at E1. Whereas, Streptococcus report patients. study suggests that pulmonary can result alterations their microbiome.
