The discovery of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) has unveiled a wide range transcripts that do not encode proteins but play key roles in several cellular and molecular processes. Long noncoding (lncRNAs) are specific class ncRNAs longer than 200 nucleotides have gained significant attention due to their diverse mechanisms action potential involvement various pathological conditions. In the current review article, authors focus on role lncRNAs, specifically highlighting Myocardial Infarction Associated Transcript (MIAT), non-oncological context. MIAT is nuclear lncRNA been directly linked myocardial infarction reported control post-transcriptional processes as competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) molecule. It interacts with microRNAs (miRNAs), thereby limiting translation expression target messenger (mRNA) regulating protein expression. Yet, implicated other numerous conditions infarction, including cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune disease, neurodegenerative metabolic many others. this review, emphasize exhibits distinct patterns functions across different emerging diagnostic, prognostic, therapeutic agent. Additionally, highlight regulatory function shed light lncRNAs diseases.

ABSTRACT Background Epstein–Barr Virus (EBV) and its clinical manifestation, infectious mononucleosis (IM), are strongly linked to MS risk. A recent in vitro study suggests that HLA‐E*01:03 , contrast HLA‐E*01:01 may protect against through more effective immune responses EBV‐infected B cells. However, the role of HLA‐E*01 remains unclear. Methods We investigated if was significantly associated with higher risk individuals a history IM diagnosis, using 487,144 from UK Biobank's cohort. estimated interaction between Cox proportional hazard models, adjusting for demographics, smoking, childhood body size, older siblings, MS‐related HLA alleles (e.g., HLA‐DRB1*15:01 ). Results allele alone not or ( p > 0.05). significant observed relation < 0.001). Specifically, both heterozygotes (HR = 1.74 [95% CI: 1.36, 1.97], 0.001) homozygotes 3.01 1.81, 3.88], history, compared . Conversely, these associations were non‐significant without The proportion combined attributable effects 40% 65% homozygotes. Conclusions carriers diagnosed at increased MS, independently other alleles. This supports hypothesis contribute susceptibility due weaker control over EBV infection. Incorporating into existing MHC‐based models could then enhance personalized assessments history.

Neurons are vital for brain function and communication. Neurodegeneration, the irreversible loss of neurons, disrupts brain-body interactions, causing diseases like Alzheimer's disease (AD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Huntington's (HD), multiple (MS), Parkinson's (PD). Factors aging, genetics, environment contribute to these disorders. They affect various leading speech, movement, sensory, balance issues. features amyloid plaques affecting memory. stems from midbrain dopaminergic neuron loss, tremors mobility problems. Huntington's, a basal ganglia disorder, results gene mutation, inducing involuntary movements. MS involves demyelination, diverse complications. ALS entails motor degeneration, resulting in muscle weakness paralysis. This chapter aims provide brief overview neurodegenerative an introduction some its key characteristics.

Is imaging of retrolaminar optic nerve, during attack acute neuritis in multiple sclerosis valuable? This is a prospective observational Case series study. Twenty two patients recruited from Al-Azhar University Hospitals and Charity Eye Centre (El-Mustafa Centre, Cairo); October 2022 to February 2024. The were referred; as, they had developed episode neuritis. Full ophthalmic neurological examinations done for all within 2 weeks Imaging peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer by conventional spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT), part enhanced depth OCT both eyes the fellow eyes. A total 44 22 MS (18 females, 4 males) with mean age 30.54 ± 9.65 years included this best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was significantly less (median = 0.30) than 0.70), p 0.007. Homogeneity tissue altered showed myelin aggregates as round or oval hyper-reflective foci (95 % confidence interval: 2.90 [2.19-3.61]), that not presented eyes, 0.000. Using revealed hyper reflective new biomarker.

Identifying reliable biomarkers in peripheral blood is critical for advancing the diagnosis and management of multiple sclerosis (MS), particularly given invasive nature cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sampling. This review explores role B cells immunoglobulins (Igs), IgG IgM, as MS. cell oligoclonal bands (OCBs) CSF are well-established diagnostic tools, yet remain underdeveloped. Emerging evidence highlights structural functional variations immunoglobulin that may correlate with disease activity progression. A recent novel discovery aggregates MS patients fail to bind Protein reveals promising potential confirms previous findings unique features G link between superantigen These aggregates, enriched IgG1 IgG3 subclasses, exhibit properties, including mutations framework region 3 (FR3) IGHV3 genes, associated complement-dependent neuronal apoptosis. Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) and autoimmune diseases (AIDs) share immunological underpinnings, leading to frequent co-occurrence. This study investigated the prevalence of AIDs among Polish patients with MS (PwMSs) its potential effects on disease characteristics. The aims were compare clinical demographic characteristics between PwMSs without coexisting AIDs. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted data from 580 who treated at Department Neurology, University Clinical Center in Katowice, Poland, February 2018 August 2023. Variables analyzed included age, sex, type, duration, treatment, Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) scores, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), vitamin D3 serum concentrations. Results: AID identified 16.9% (n = 98). Compared AIDs, exhibited significantly higher mean age (44.61 ± 11.40 vs. 42.24 12.27 years; p 0.0151), longer duration (10.77 6.72 9.56 7.19 0.0102), EDSS scores (2.97 1.43 2.89 1.84; 0.0261). Among PwMSs, females (20.24%) compared males (8.13%; 0.0022), strongly associated relapsing-remitting subtype (p 0.0352). Autoimmune thyroid markedly most prevalent (hypothyroidism 7.24%). Conclusions: exhibit distinct characteristics, including older increased greater disability. Thyroid disorders are notably PwMSs. These findings underscore intricate interplay highlight necessity for further research into their long-term impact.
