The awareness–motivation–capability (AMC) framework instructs firms to be aware of rivals, yet it offers limited guidance on how profile those who are not rivals but stand become so. Because embedded in dyads, triads, tetrads, etc., a multilevel view can unearth awareness cues that specify hostility and make the construct prescient. Studying thousands competitive encounters over 10 years, we show that, at firm dyad levels, diversification asymmetric pressure (differential exposure pressure) reliable predicting encounters. At network level, convergence drives triadic (competition with rival's rival), degree separation among indirect competitors defines outer bounds profile. Specifically, direct second- third-degree merit awareness—more distal players do not. Together, delineate conceptual bound within which is prescient beyond misplaced. Challenging several assumptions, our study shows an arena assists cross-industry competition; applying firm, dyad, levels analysis advisable better foresee "profilable," allowing us "see" even before they strike.

While the online sphere is believed to expose individuals a wider array of viewpoints, worry about self-reinforcing political echo chambers also persists. We join this scholarly debate by focusing on individual motives for discussion and dyadic- structural-level mechanisms that can drive one’s message-selection decision in settings. Using unobtrusively logged behavioral data matched with panel survey responses, our temporal exponential random graph model (TERGM) analysis indicates message selection settings largely driven similarity candidate evaluative criteria various endogenous structural factors, whereas impact overt partisan preference shaping much more limited than often assumed.

Prominent current policy problems such as climate change, migration, or the financial crisis embrace a multitude of issues that are tackled within single‐ multiple‐policy subsystems. However, interdependencies among actors arise due to their multi‐issue engagement often discounted when studying processes, including learning dynamics and alliance trust formation engaged in multiple issues. Various compete for actors’ attention, need choose an appropriate set deal with given scarce resources. In this, why do engage issues? We present innovative inductive approach identifies related Swiss water politics involved therein. use two‐mode exponential random graph model estimate activity. Results show 39% more than one water‐related issue cross‐subsystem homophily clustering clustered popularity drive this engagement.

This paper focuses on cooperation among organizations in a common‐pool resource (CPR) problem situation. Cooperation is particularly challenging settings where degradation produced by variety of different sectors and parts the population; problem, as well public responsibilities, transcend borders jurisdictions. Focusing transboundary water quality management Rhine catchment area, we ask: What drives two actors CPR situation to cooperate with each other? We argue that degree threat an important driver for collective action, focus actors’ exposure perception CPR. Furthermore, rely applications ecology games framework (EGF), taking into account larger institutional context management. allows us test whether participation forums, such regional international body associations, helps overcome further enhancing interactions actors. Based survey data applying advanced network statistics (exponential random graph models [ERGM]), conclude although one factor enhances joint cooperation, forums plays even bigger role setting. Our study contributes research settings, highlights need more systematically include effects problems have when analyzing stresses function triggers situations.
