Musculoskeletal injuries such as equine osteoarthritis, osteoarticular defects, tendonitis/desmitis, and muscular disorders are prevalent among sport horses, with a fair prognosis for returning to exercise or previous performance levels. The field of medicine has witnessed rapid fruitful development, resulting in diverse range therapeutic options musculoskeletal problems. Staying abreast these advancements can be challenging, prompting the need comprehensive review commonly used recent treatments. aim is compile current managing injuries, spanning from simple complex physiotherapy techniques, conservative treatments including steroidal non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, hyaluronic acid, polyacrylamides, promising regenerative therapies hemoderivatives stem cell-based therapies. Each modality scrutinized its benefits, limitations, potential synergistic actions facilitate their most effective application intended healing/regeneration injured tissue/organ subsequent patient recovery. While emerge particularly multidisciplinary approach underscored throughout discussion, emphasizing importance considering various modalities tandem.

Stifle joint diseases present a significant challenge in companion animals that often lead to hind limb lameness, with osteoarthritis being prevalent degenerative condition causing pain and reduced mobility. Regenerative medicine offers promising avenue for improving treatment outcomes, range of emerging therapies showing potential alleviate symptoms promote health. Among these, hyaluronic acid platelet-rich plasma have been widely used as intra-articular treatments enhance lubrication, reduce inflammation, provide symptomatic relief. Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein, autologous conditioned serum, protein solution represent the next generation regenerative therapies, offering more disease-modifying effects by inhibiting key mediators inflammation. More recently, MSC-derived secretome has emerged an innovative, cell-free approach leverages diverse bioactive factors secreted MSCs support tissue repair modulate This review highlights evidence base behind these non-cellular orthobiologic stifle disease, aiming inform veterinary practitioners owners about available options their efficacy supporting conventional treatments.

(1) Background: Tendon and ligament injuries are a leading cause of lameness in horses, with significant economic implications. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained attention for its regenerative potential, but efficacy remains uncertain due to inconsistent study designs reporting. (2) Methods: This systematic review, following the PRISMA guidelines, evaluated 22 studies (clinical experimental) assess safety PRP treating equine tendon injuries. The risk bias was analyzed using ROBINS-I RoB 2.0 tools. (3) Results: demonstrated favorable profile, no severe adverse effects reported. Clinical outcomes included improved scores, ultrasonographic tissue organization, return-to-work rates. However, variability formulations (e.g., leukocyte-rich vs. leukocyte-reduced) activation methods calcium chloride, thrombin) contributed results. Experimental supported PRP’s role collagen synthesis neovascularization, comparative trials stem cells or other therapies extracorporeal shockwave) showed mixed methodological quality varied, only 27% achieving “good” scores (4) Conclusions: is safe potentially effective treatment, clinical application hindered by lack standardization. Future research should focus on large, randomized controlled uniform protocols, long-term (≥2 years) assessments, MSC combinations, cost-effectiveness analyses.
