Abstract Biological age (BA) captures detrimental age-related changes. The best-known and most-used BA indicators include DNA methylation–based epigenetic clocks telomere length (TL). most common biological sample material for epidemiological aging studies, whole blood, is composed of different cell types. We aimed to compare differences in BAs between blood types assessed the indicators’ type-specific associations with chronological (CA). An analysis indicators, including TL, methylation level at cg16867657 ELOVL2 , as well Hannum, Horvath, DNAmPhenoAge, DunedinPACE clocks, was performed on 428 samples 12 values were majority pairwise comparisons types, comparison ( p < 0.05). DNAmPhenoAge showed largest type differences, up 44.5 years methylation-based TL lowest differences. T cells generally had "youngest" values, across subsets, whereas monocytes "oldest" values. All except DunedinPACE, strongly correlated CA within a type. Some such DNAmPhenoAge-difference naïve CD4 + constant regardless donor's (range 20–80 years), while they not. In conclusion, exhibit type–specific characteristics. Our results have implications understanding molecular mechanisms underlying underscore importance considering composition when utilizing them success interventions.

‘Frailty’ has been described as ‘a state of increased vulnerability the individual caused by an impairment homeostasis a result endogenous or exogenous stress’. Frail individuals are depicted dramatic change in health status following apparently minor insult and higher risk adverse health-related outcomes such osteoporosis sarcopenia, falls disability, fragility fractures. Frailty is condition increasing importance due to global ageing population during last decades. Central pathophysiology frailty mechanism that partially independent ageing, but most likely evolves with ageing: cumulative level molecular cellular damage every subject. Furthermore, uncorrected nutrition sedentary behaviour play pivotal role worsening syndrome. In January 2020, cluster genus family Coronaviridae was isolated pathogen new coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Since then, this infection spread worldwide causing one pandemics modern era, more than 500 million confirmed cases all over world. The clinical spectrum SARS-CoV-2 severity ranges from asymptomatic conditions mild symptoms, fever, cough, ageusia, anosmia asthenia, up severe conditions, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) multi-organ failure leading death. Primary evidence revealed elderly frail subjects were susceptible its intense form at greater developing COVID-19. Factors contributing COVID-19, mortality rate, poor immune system activity long-standing inflammatory compared general population. Further recent research also suggested potential behaviour, metabolic chronic disorders linked it nutritional status. Thus, aim review evaluate different studies related COVID-19 pandemic, both physical activity, and, also, provide further information on correct approach peculiar pathological condition.

The notion that viruses played a crucial role in the evolution of life is not new concept. However, more recent insights suggest this perception might be even expansive, highlighting ongoing impact on host evolution. Endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) are considered genomic remnants ancient viral infections acquired throughout vertebrate Their exogenous counterparts once infected host's germline cells, eventually leading to permanent endogenization their respective proviruses. success ERV colonization evident so it constitutes 8% human genome. Emerging studies indicate endogenous merely past but rather play corollary role, despite fully understood, genetic regulation. This review presents some evidence supporting regulating genetics. We explore involvement ERVs (HERVs) key physiological processes, from precise and orchestrated activities during cellular differentiation pluripotency contributions aging senescence. Additionally, we discuss costs associated with hosting substantial amount preserved material.

As people age, geriatric syndromes characterized by frailty significantly impact both clinical practice and public health. Aging weakens people's immune functions, leading to chronic low-grade inflammation that ultimately contributes the development of frailty. Effectively managing can help alleviate economic burden an aging population. This review delves into intricate relationship among aging, infection-induced inflammation, In addition, it analyzes various approaches interventions address frailty, such as smart rehabilitation programs stem-cell treatments, offering promising solutions in this new era. Given importance topic, further research mechanisms is crucial. Equally essential devising relevant measures delay its onset formulation comprehensive clinical, research, health strategies enhance quality life for elderly individuals.

Abstract Purpose This study aimed to assess the effect of modified 5-item frailty index on perioperative complications and surgical outcomes in patients who underwent ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy for upper urinary tract stones. Methods Patients stones between 2019 2022 were reviewed retrospectively. Assessment was performed using based medical history (hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) functional status. categorized into high (≥ 2) low (≤ 1) groups score. We compared two groups. Results Seventy-one (15.8%) 393 (84.1%) 467 classified groups, respectively. The group exhibited a significant association increased febrile infections [≥ 37.8 °C: 15 (20.3%) vs 13 (3.3%), p < 0.001; ≥ 38 9 (12.2%) 7 (1.8%), 0.001]. Surgical outcomes, including operative time stone-free rate, did not differ significantly Conclusion is valuable predicting postoperative complications, particularly infections, after allows practical preoperative risk assessment lithotripsy.

Background/Objectives: We have previously described that low adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MD) in elderly patients admitted internal medicine wards is linked poorer clinical outcomes. This investigation was designed explore whether MD related circulating markers of redox balance and inflammation this scenario. Methods: A cross-sectional study performed on 306 acute old hospitalized wards. Adherence estimated by Italian Index (IMI). The were assessed serum erythrocytes correlated with inflammatory across different groups. Results: Compared high adherence, those exhibited severely impaired balance, as evidenced a higher GSSG/GSH ratio increased hydroxynonenal/malondialdehyde–protein adducts. No modifications expression antioxidant enzymes peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Patients neutrophil-to-lymphocyte systemic inflammation, well raised levels interleukin-6 tumor necrosis factor, compared adherence. strong association observed between inflammation/immune response, highest regression coefficients found group. Conclusions: Old display unfavorable profiles inflammation. It conceivable such effects can be polyphenol content MD. supports rationale for intervention trials attest effectiveness nutritional strategy disease prevention.
