Detection methods have been developed to prevent transmission of zoonotic or xenozoonotic porcine viruses after transplantation pig organs cells the recipient (xenotransplantation). Eleven xenotransplantation-relevant viruses, including cytomegalovirus, roseolovirus (PCMV/PRV), lymphotropic herpesviruses -1, -2, -3 (PLHV-1, 2, 3), parvovirus (PPV), circovirus 3, 4 (PCV2, 4), hepatitis E virus genotype 3 (HEV3), endogenous retrovirus-C (PERV-C), and recombinant PERV-A/C selected. In past, several breeds, minipigs, genetically modified pigs generated for xenotransplantation had analyzed using these methods. Here, spleen, liver, blood samples from 10 German slaughterhouse were screened both PCR-based immunological assays. Five viruses: PCMV/PRV, PLHV-1, PLHV-3, PERV-C, found in all animals, PCV3 one animal. Some animals latently infected with as only virus-specific antibodies detected. Others also PCR positive spleen and/or indicative an ongoing infection. These results provide important information on that infect pigs, together previous studies, they reveal test strategies efficiently work under field conditions.
