Abstract Psychedelic substances are garnering renewed interest for their potential therapeutic applications, yet the mechanisms by which challenging experiences during psychedelic use contribute to positive outcomes remains poorly understood. Here we present a mixed-methods investigation into strategies individuals employ navigate difficult and relationship emotional breakthrough. Qualitative analysis of accounts from psilocybin retreat participants (n = 16) informed development Responses Challenging Experiences Inventory (ReCiPE). In subsequent online survey 529), exploratory factor ReCiPE revealed three primary response strategies: Acceptance Reappraisal, Sensory Regulation Physical Interaction, Social Support Disclosure. Exploratory correlation multiple regression analyses demonstrated significant relationships between different types challenges, Notably, Disclosure were positively associated with greater Fear-related challenges negatively breakthrough involved fewer adaptive coping strategies. These findings elucidate complex interplay responses in contexts, offering insights optimising protocols enhancing safety both clinical non-clinical settings.

This study is a survey-type, cross-sectional conducted in Brazil (n = 517), with online data collection taking place from April to June 2022. The main objective of this was evaluate the death anxiety users and non-users psychedelics. To end, we also assessed validity reliability Death Anxiety Scale Brazil. following instruments were used for collection: questionnaire sociodemographic characterization, Scale, Transcendence Spiritual Well-Being Scale. Our results indicated following: 1) increased associated never or almost having psychedelics; 2) transcendence, especially creative religious factors, only constant variable all explanatory models variation anxiety; 3) there negative relationship between mystical factors transcendence. We interpret these as follows: it's not psychedelics that reduce – can favor experience transcending death. And possibility death, (idea continuity beyond physical both spiritual symbolic forms) helps anxiety. These findings offer valuable insights into role human mortality perception.

This paper introduces the hypothesis of Psychedelic Iatrogenic Structural Dissociation (PISD), proposing that psychedelics may reactivate dissociated traumatic material, increasing risk psychological destabilization in trauma-exposed individuals. Grounded structural dissociation theory, this framework suggests can disrupt balance between daily functioning (the Apparently Normal Personality, ANP) and trauma-related responses Emotional EP), leading to resurfacing unintegrated memories. A review recent studies highlights persistent adverse effects associated with psychedelic use, including emotional dysregulation, identity fragmentation, derealization, perceptual disturbances, particularly among individuals early trauma histories. To mitigate these risks facilitate processing, integration practices, body-focused therapies, structured social support systems are proposed as key interventions. Additionally, emerging neurophysiological models suggest reconfigure dissociative processes through modulation entrenched patterns, potentially facilitating or vulnerability destabilization, depending on individual contextual factors. These findings underscore necessity trauma-informed screening, preparation, protocols enhance safety efficacy for vulnerable populations.

Systematic research on the impact of psychedelic use sexuality and intimacy remains limited. This study investigated reported effects various aspects sexuality, gender, relationships through an online survey individuals who had used psychedelics (N = 581). Most participants (70.2%) perceived impacts experiences their and/or sexual experiences, with 65.4% noting short-term during 52.8% reporting long-term effects, although no individual effect was endorsed by most participants. A higher proportion indicated that enhanced, rather than diminished, relationship quality, attraction to current partners, activities. Approximately 10% influenced gender identity expression, increased authenticity, self-acceptance, openness, freedom in self-expression, as well altered gender. One-quarter women one-eighth men heightened same-sex following use, one-third those other identities changes attraction. Higher proportions dating multiple people, being polyamorous or open relationship, committed only one person after compared before. Regression models identified associated using large doses, more frequent lower household income, identifying diverse, especially younger age women. Psychedelics may facilitate these via self-insight, greater connectedness others, increases self-compassion, though further is needed.

Abstract Psychedelic substances are increasingly recognized for their potential to catalyse transformative shifts in worldviews. Central these transformations states of awe, a self-transcendent, epistemic emotion. This mixed-methods study explored how awe during psychedelic trips relates lasting changes boundaries between self and world, that follow experiences. Ninety participants completed the Awe Experience Scale (AWE-S), Inclusion Other Self (IOS), open-ended questions exploring changes. Awe, particularly its connectedness vastness components, was significantly correlated with increased self-other overlap. Thematic Network Analysis revealed three clusters: (1) dissolution societal natural boundaries, (2) expanded awareness openness complexity, (3) prosociality, compassion acceptance difference. These findings suggest psychedelic-induced may facilitate cognitive accommodation towards more holistic worldview. highlights experiences foster prosocial ecologically aware worldviews through transformation.

In parallel, there been calls to make enhanced available the community after clinical trials. Here, we explore a potential reason why individuals may seek out these groups: namely, feelings disconnection and loneliness that arise experience (noting be other reasons groups). Integration groups can offer significant benefits participants (e.g. sense community, shared coping strategies); however, also associated risks. this essay, aim risks preliminary set guidelines physicians, researchers help assess evaluate groups.

However, adverse effects (AEs) research psychedelics has been limited, leading to underspecified AE profiles, inconsistent measurement, potential undercounting AEs.
