Previous studies raise the possibility that antioxidants protect against neurodegenerative diseases. To examine whether intake of antioxidant nutrients, including vitamin E, C, and carotene, is associated with reduced cognitive decline age.Longitudinal population-based study conducted from September 17, 1993, to November 20, 2000, an average follow-up 3.2 years. The patients were 2889 community residents, aged 65 102 years, who completed a food frequency questionnaire, on 18 months after baseline.Cognitive change as measured by 4 tests (the East Boston Memory Test, which immediate delayed recall; Mini-Mental State Examination; Symbol Digit Modalities Test) at baseline 3 years for all participants, 6 288 randomly selected participants. We used random-effects models estimate nutrient effects individual in score tests. The declined 5.0 x 10(-2) standardized units per year. There was 36% reduction rate among persons highest quintile total E (-4.3 year) compared those lowest (-6.7 (P =.05), model adjusted age, race, sex, educational level, current smoking, alcohol consumption, calorie (energy) intake, intakes A. We also observed higher foods =.03 trend). little evidence association C or carotene intake.Vitamin supplements, less age.

Background and purpose: Ginseng is one of the most popular herbs worldwide. has various medical applications, it seems to have significant effects as a cognition‐enhancing drug. In this study, we examined efficacy Korean red ginseng (KRG) an adjuvant therapy conventional anti‐dementia medications in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Methods: The trial was designed 12‐week randomized study. Sixty‐one (24 males 37 females) disease were randomly assigned following treatment groups: low‐dose KRG (4.5 g/day, n = 15), high‐dose (9 15) or control ( 31). Disease Assessment Scale (ADAS), version Mini‐Mental Status Examination (K‐MMSE) Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) scale used assess change cognitive functional performance at end study period. Results: group showed improvement on ADAS CDR after 12 weeks when compared those P 0.032 0.006 respectively). groups from baseline MMSE (1.42 vs. −0.48), but not statistically significant. Conclusions: good for disease; however, further studies larger samples longer should be conducted confirm KRG.

It is becoming increasingly clear that neurological diseases are multi-factorial involving disruptions in multiple cellular systems. Thus, while each disease has its own initiating mechanisms and pathologies, certain common pathways appear to be involved most, if not all, diseases. it unlikely modulating only a single factor will effective at either preventing development or slowing progression. A better approach identify small (< 900 daltons) molecules have biological activities relevant the maintenance of brain function. We identified an orally active, novel neuroprotective cognition-enhancing molecule, flavonoid fisetin. Fisetin direct antioxidant activity but can also increase intracellular levels glutathione, major antioxidant. activate key neurotrophic signaling pathways. In addition, anti-inflammatory inhibits lipoxygenases, thereby reducing production pro-inflammatory eicosanoids their by-products. This wide range actions suggests fisetin ability reduce impact age-related on

Abstract The use of psychedelic substances at sub-sensorium ‘ microdoses’, has gained popular academic interest for reported positive effects on wellness and cognition. present study describes microdosing practices, motivations mental health among a sample self-selected microdosers ( n = 4050) non-microdosers 4653) via mobile application. Psilocybin was the most commonly used microdose in our (85%) we identified diverse practices with regard to dosage, frequency, practice stacking which involves combining psilocybin non-psychedelic such as Lion’s Mane mushrooms, chocolate, niacin. Microdosers were generally similar non-microdosing controls demographics, but more likely report history concerns. Among individuals reporting concerns, exhibited lower levels depression, anxiety, stress across gender. Health wellness-related motives prominent general, females who Our results indicate perceived benefits microdosers, highlight need further research into consequences including studies rigorous longitudinal designs.

Substances with modulatory capabilities on certain aspects of human cognition have been revered as nootropics from the dawn time. The plant kingdom provides most currently available natural origin. Here, in this systematic review, we aim to provide state-of-the-art information regarding proven and unproven effects plant-derived (PDNs) conditions health disease. Six independent searches, one for each neurocognitive domain (NCD), were performed parallel using three scientific library databases: PubMed, Cochrane Scopus. Only studies reviews humans published between January 2000 November 2021 reviewed, 256 papers included. Ginkgo biloba was relevant nootropic perceptual motor functions. Bacopa monnieri improves language, learning memory. Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) modulates anxiety social-related cognitions. Caffeine enhances attention executive Together, results compiled highlight inconsistencies PDNs that require further research.Supplemental data article is online at https://doi.org/10.1080/10408398.2021.2021137

The Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels is reported to have medicinal properties, but its benefits on age-related neurological changes not been previously explored. In the current study, after phytochemical analysis of pulp fruit (Sy. cmi), young BALB/c mice supplemented with 5, 15, and 30% dilution for 16 months, followed by behavioral experimentation biochemical evaluation isolated brains. Sy. cmi has found enriched phenols/flavonoids while occurrence nine phytocompounds identified through GC-MS analysis. Further, supplementation caused significant (p < 0.05) protection from anxiety-like behavior in aged mice, they explored open, illuminated, exposed areas open field, light/dark, an elevated plus maze, respectively. There is growing availability of novel psychoactive substances (NPS), including cognitive enhancers (CEs) which can be used in the treatment certain mental health disorders. While treating deficit symptoms neuropsychiatric or neurodegenerative disorders using CEs might have significant benefits for patients, increasing recreational use these by healthy individuals raises many clinical, medico-legal, and ethical issues. Moreover, it has become very challenging clinicians to keep up-to-date with currently available as comprehensive official lists do not exist.Using a web crawler (NPSfinder®), present study aimed at assessing psychonaut fora/platforms better understand online situation regarding CEs. Neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease are increasing globally represent a significant cause of age-related death in the population. Recent studies emphasize strong association between environmental stressors, particularly dietary factors, brain health neurodegeneration unsatisfactory outcomes. Despite ongoing efforts, efficiency current treatments for NDDs remains wanting. Considering this, nootropic foods with neuroprotective effects high interest part possible long-term therapeutic strategy to improve alleviate NDDs. However, since it is new emerging area food neuroscience, there limited information on mechanisms challenges consider this be successful intervention. Here, we seek address these gaps by presenting comprehensive review pathways or including mutual interactions governing metabolism, linkages NDDs, intake, properties foods. We also discuss in-depth intervention compounds patterns providing detailed exploration their action. Additionally, analyze demand, challenges, future directions development targeting
