The aim of this study was to examine the associations between different cognitive domains and hand function in older people diagnosed with mild impairment (MCI) or dementia. This is cross-sectional, including 98 community-living aged ≥65 years MCI dementia. Assessments included grip strength, Finger Tapping Test, Grooved Pegboard. Cognitive assessments were Mini-Mental State Examination, Clock Drawing Trail Making Tests A B, as well a 10-word List Learning Test. Statistical analyses based on descriptive statistics univariable multivariable analyses.Sixty participants 38 mean age 78.8 (SD 7.4). Analyses function, tests, demographic factors showed an association particular executive (EF), function. The findings indicated physical function. Among domains, declines EF most related reduced

Grip strength has been proposed as a biomarker. Supporting this proposition, evidence is provided herein that shows grip largely consistent an explanator of concurrent overall strength, upper limb function, bone mineral density, fractures, falls, malnutrition, cognitive impairment, depression, sleep problems, diabetes, multimorbidity, and quality life. Evidence also for predictive link between all-cause disease-specific mortality, future cognition problems associated with hospitalization. Consequently, the routine use can be recommended stand-alone measurement or component small battery measurements identifying older adults at risk poor health status.

The gait speed and handgrip strength represented the core determinants of physical frailty sarcopenia, which were reported to be associated with cognitive impairment decline. Different measures might differentially affect changes, such as higher-level change global This study examined differential associations 10-year changes among community-dwelling older people.Participants aged 60 years over living in community invited for study. Gait classified into 5 groups based on quintiles at baseline. Cognitive functions assessed using Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST) every 2 from baseline a period 10 years. Linear mixed effects models used determine role prediction by adjusting covariates, including age, gender, education, depressive symptoms, marital status, smoking instrumental activities daily life (IADL), Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), body mass index (BMI) baseline.A total 1096 participants enrolled mean age was 69.4 ± 5.8 50.9% male. slowest group showed significantly greater decline DSST scores than highest (estimate = 0.28 P 0.003), but not MMSE 0.05 0.078). lowest 0.06 0.039) two 0.20 0.033 fourth quintile; estimate 0.040 quintile) follow-up.A slow could predict DSST, low addition DSST. Thus both are lined there may different mechanisms between brain functions.

Sarcopenia is an important public health problem, characterized by age-related loss of muscle mass and function. It a precursor physical frailty, mobility limitation, premature death. Muscle mainly due to the type II fibres, progressive motor neurones thought be primary underlying factor. Anterior thigh muscles undergo atrophy earlier, anterior function may therefore antecedent finding. The aim this review provide in-depth (and holistic) neuromusculoskeletal approach sarcopenia. In addition, under umbrella International Society Physical Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM), novel diagnostic algorithm proposed, developed with consensus experts in special interest group on sarcopenia (ISarcoPRM). advantages over others are: caution concerning disorders related renin-angiotensin system at case finding stage; emphasis loss; incorporation ultrasound for first time measure muscle; addition chair stand test as power/performance assess Refining testing remains priority future research.

Engagement in leisure activities has been claimed to be highly beneficial the elderly. Practicing such is supposed help older adults preserve cognitive function, physical and mental health, thus contribute successful aging. We used structural equation modeling (SEM) analyze impact of on these constructs a large sample Japanese (N = 809; age range 72–74). The model exhibited an excellent fit (CFI 1); engaging was positively associated with all three aging indicators. These findings corroborate previous research carried out Western countries extend its validity population Eastern adults. Abstract Handgrip strength (HGS), a measure of muscular strength, might be risk indicator for cognitive functioning, but the evidence is not consistent. Using new prospective study and meta-analysis published observational cohort studies, we aimed to evaluate associations HGS with poor outcomes including impairment, dementia Alzheimer’s disease (AD). measured using Martin-Balloon-Vigorimeter, was assessed at baseline in population-based sample 852 men women good function Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease cohort. Hazard ratios (HRs) 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated outcomes. Relevant studies sought MEDLINE, Embase Web Science from inception until October 2021 pooled random effects meta-analysis. During median follow-up 16.6 years, 229 cases recorded. Comparing extreme tertiles HGS, multivariable adjusted HR (95% CI) dementia, AD vascular 0.77 (0.55–1.07), 0.75 (0.52–1.10) 0.49 (0.16–1.48), respectively. An association between handgrip strength, hand dexterity and global cognition is suggested; however, it unclear whether both motor functions are associated with executive function, which important for performing daily activities. Understanding this will help identify risk factors impairment of function in late adulthood. We aim to investigate the relationship strength physically mentally healthy community-dwelling older adults.Three hundred twenty-six adults (287 women, mean age ± SD, 70.1 5.6) underwent tests using a dynamometer Purdue Pegboard Test (PPT), respectively. Executive was evaluated Trail Making (TMT)-A, TMT-B Digit symbol; assessed Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE).Age-group differences showed that younger groups (60-64, 65-69 70-74) had significant better PPT performance than oldest group (75 older), whereas no were observed strength. Multiple regression analysis adjusted potential covariates, including MMSE scores, TMT-A, TMT-B, symbol significantly scores; variables strength.Hand vulnerable effects aging and, contrary strongly associates independent cognition. Our results suggest assessing may individuals at higher among high-functioning adults.

This study aimed to examine the relationship between physical performance and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in Chinese older adults. The sample comprised 956 relatively healthy aged ≥65 years old community-dwelling participants (mean age, 72.56 ± 5.43 years; 56.8% female), which did not include those with dementia, severe impairment, mental illness etc. The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) scale were used for initial classification patients MCI. Physical was measured via hand grip, Timed Up Go Test (TUGT), 4-m walking speed. The (grip strength, TUGT, speed) correlated grip strength [odds ratio (OR) = 0.96, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.93-0.99] speed (OR 0.25, CI 0.10-0.64) negatively MCI, while TUGT 1.08, 1.03-1.13) MCI positively. The Further analysis showed that associated overall cognition, time orientation, recall, language, cognition various domains, except recall.
