The impact of physical exercise on adolescent social anxiety: the serial mediating effects of sports self-efficacy and expressive suppression

This
study
aims
to
investigate
the
impact
of
physical
exercise
on
adolescent
social
anxiety
and
elucidate
serial
mediating
roles
sports
self-efficacy
expressive
suppression
within
this
context.
Utilizing
a
convenience
random
cluster
sampling
technique,
surveyed
2500
primary
secondary
school
students
across
Sichuan,
Guangdong,
Shandong,
Henan,
Jiangxi
provinces.
The
survey
utilized
validated
scales
assess
exercise,
self-efficacy,
suppression,
among
adolescents.
revealed
that:
(1)
Physical
has
significant
negative
correlation
with
(r
=
-0.32,
p
<
0.01);
(2)
Sports
significantly
mediated
relationship
between
anxiety,
an
indirect
effect
-0.15
(95%
CI
[-0.22,
-0.09]);
(3)
Expressive
-0.11
[-0.17,
-0.06]);

-0.02]).
not
only
directly
alleviates
in
adolescents
but
also
indirectly
diminishes
through

Disentangling the relationship between state self‐compassion and state coping self‐efficacy using dynamic structural equation modeling

Abstract
The
cross‐sectional
association
between
self‐compassion
and
coping
self‐efficacy
has
been
well
documented,
but
little
is
known
about
the
extent
to
which
or
persists
in
daily
life.
This
study
used
dynamic
structural
equation
modeling
explore
temporal
relationship
through
a
diary
study.
Participants
(
N
=
240,
M
age
18.98
±
0.99
years,
44.8%
female)
completed
14
consecutive
diaries
on
(for
total
of
3219
observations).
We
found
that
demonstrated
stability
autocorrelations.
Self‐compassion
was
significant
predictor
subsequent
self‐efficacy,
self‐compassion.
These
findings
suggest
there
virtuous
cycle
state
