ABSTRACT Background Emerging evidence suggests a link between salivary metabolite changes and neurodegenerative dementia, with antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) implicated in its pathogenesis. Objective We investigated the effects of clinical oral rehabilitation programme tailored for dementia patients on flow rate, AMP levels health‐related quality life (OHRQoL). Methods Eligible were randomly assigned to either experimental group (EG; n = 28) or control (CG; 27). Both groups received leaflet health. In addition, EG an care intervention that included individual lessons muscle exercises self‐care practices. Saliva samples OHRQoL data collected at baseline follow‐up visits. Generalised estimating equation models used analyse over time. Results At 3‐month follow‐up, showed significantly lower histatin 5 (HTN‐5) ( β −0.08; effect size [ES] 0.72) than CG. 6 months, exhibited improved rate 0.89; ES 0.89) 6.99; 1.31) compared Changes 4.03), HTN‐5 level −0.78) beta‐defensin 2 (BD‐2) −0.91) 3 months predicted (all p < 0.05). Conclusions Our reduced HTN‐5, increased enhanced patients. Furthermore, BD‐2 associated improvements patients' OHRQoL.

Introduction: Dietary factors may play an important role in periodontal health. However, current evidence from observational studies remains inconclusive. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the causal relationships between dietary exposures and disease risks using Mendelian randomization analysis. Methods: Large-scale genome-wide association summary statistics for 20 were obtained MRC-IEU consortium. Multivariable univariable 2-sample analyses performed assess effects of each exposure on 6 outcomes, including gingivitis periodontitis. Results: Genetically predicted higher dried fruit intake was significantly associated with reduced acute (odds ratio [OR]: 0.02; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.00–0.42; P = 0.01) bleeding gums (OR: 0.96; CI: 0.93–0.99; 0.01). Higher fresh water showed protective against chronic 0.18; 0.04–0.91; 0.04 OR: 0.15; 0.04–0.53; 0.00) 0.95; 0.92–0.981; 0.00 0.98; 0.96–0.99; 0.02). Alcohol frequency processed meat risk 1.01; 1.00–1.02; 0.01 1.05; 1.01–1.08; painful 1.00–1.01; 1.02; 1.01–1.03; 0.00). Most genetic predisposition specified diseases remained statistically significant (P < 0.05) after adjusting dentures, smoking, type 2 diabetes multivariable models. Conclusions: The findings suggest potential other problems, while alcohol increase disease. Our provides preliminary diet health could inform prevention strategies targeting habits improve oral Knowledge Transfer Statement: suggests that protect disease, meats risk, informing guidelines

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by memory loss and cognitive impairment. It severely affects the quality of life victims. The prevalence AD has been increasing in recent years. Therefore, it great importance to elucidate pathogenic mechanism search for effective therapeutic approaches. Gut microbiota dysbiosis, an altered state gut microbiota, well known its involvement pathogenesis AD. Much effort made searching approaches capable modulating composition Herbal medicines have attracted extensive attention decades prevention treatment Here, we gave overview research progress on modulatory effects herbal formulae as possible beneficial AD, which may provide new insights into discovery anti-AD agents their potential through microbiota.

The phenotype balance between A1 (toxic) A2 (safe) microglial phenotypes to toxic illness AD become a hot research topic at present. Currently, many transcription factors, downstream signaling pathways, molecular mechanisms that regulate polarization microglia are being explored. Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis), a major periodontal pathogen, causes intrauterine infection/inflammation. Offspring exposed to infection/inflammation have an increased risk of neurological disorders, regardless gestational age. However, the relationship between maternal periodontitis and offspring functional/histological changes in brain has not yet been elucidated. In this study, we used mouse model investigate effects odontogenic infection P. on behavior tissue. The step-through passive avoidance test showed that latency acquisition trial was significantly shorter group (p < 0.05), but no difference spontaneous motor/exploratory parameters by open-field test. diffusely distributed throughout brain, especially hippocampus. In hippocampus amygdala, numbers neuron cells cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element binding protein-positive were reduced whereas number ionized calcium adapter protein 1-positive microglia 0.05). hippocampus, glial fibrillary acidic astrocytes also 0.05).The gingivalis-infected mothers cognitive function. Neurodegeneration/neuroinflammation amygdala may be caused infection, which is maternally transmitted. The importance eliminating gingivalis-odontogenic before or during gestation maintenance healthy function should addressed near future.
