This review examines the recent body of work in both economics and Management that assess sustainability international trade flows through prism Global Value Chains (GVC) framework. On economic side, we latest developments from macro micro levels, spotlighting new accounting techniques offering insights into full social environmental repercussions supply chains. Despite advancements, reliability prevailing analytical frameworks raises concerns. At micro-level, while emerging strategies suggest potential integrations, data challenges hinder their systematic implementation. From a standpoint, field has developed several theoretical framework, but remains nascent methodological structure quantitative applications. Notably, despite calls academic community for interdisciplinary collaboration over past decade, tangible progress this direction limited. Nevertheless, trend indicates move towards convergence tackling intricate relationship between GVCs sustainability.

In the context of global value chains (GVCs), impact Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on China’s bilateral trade with countries (BRCs) is controversial. This study constructed a GVC accounting framework based multiregional input–output model, aiming to clarify trends transfer characteristics added (VA) embodied carbon emissions (ECEs) in China–BRCs from 2000 2018 at overall country, region (BRR), typical country levels. The relevant results are threefold. (1) At level, BRCs VA ECEs imports exports have shown increasing trends. (2) Most BRRs net ECE exporters China. Southeast Asia Northeast main destinations sources. (3) China–typical trade, China exporter most BRCs, transfers through route 1 (onefold chain) all positive, implying that can reduce BRCs. These findings help formulate policies measures provide scientific basis for realizing coordinated development emission reduction economy
