Active
participation
in
the
global
value
chains
(GVC)
has
been
recognized
as
an
important
factor
curbing
growth
of
carbon
emissions.
However,
how
GVC
embedment
affects
emissions
economies
and
what
are
pathways
its
impact
need
to
be
further
studied.
This
paper
analyzes
mechanism
affecting
embodied
exports
(CEEE)
selects
17
manufacturing
industries
36
around
world
for
empirical
testing.
It
is
found
that
significantly
reduces
CEEE.
Specifically,
a
suppressive
effect
on
CEEE
both
developed
developing
countries,
former
greater
than
latter;
low-tech
negative
but
not
conducive
reduction
high-tech
industries;
complex
forward
have
higher
effects
compared
with
simple
backward
embedment.
More
importantly,
through
energy
conservation
effect,
structure
transfer
all
them
show
significant
inverted
U-shaped
mediation
effect.
The
findings
this
implications
sustainable
economic
development
under
division
labor
system.

A
comprehensive
assessment
of
the
environmental
and
employment
impacts
international
trade
is
essential
for
coordinating
sustainable
development
between
economy,
environment,
society.
