Atherosclerosis (AS) is recognized as a chronic inflammatory condition characterized by the accumulation of lipids and cells within damaged walls arterial vessels. It significant independent risk factor for ischemic cardiovascular disease, stroke, peripheral disease. Despite availability current treatments such statins, proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors, lifestyle modifications prevention, AS remains leading cause morbidity economic burden worldwide. Thus, there pressing need development new supplementary alternative therapies or medications. Huangqin (Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. [SBG]), traditional Chinese medicine, exerts immunomodulatory effect in prevention treatment, with baicalin being identified one primary active ingredients medicine. Baicalin offers broad spectrum pharmacological activities, including regulation immune balance, antioxidant anti-inflammatory effects, improvement lipid metabolism dysregulation. Consequently, it beneficial effects both onset progression. This review provides an overview properties mechanisms which aids highlighting its potential clinical translational therapy.
