Cardiovascular diseases stand as the predominant global cause of mortality, exerting a profound impact on both life expectancy and its quality. Given their immense public health burden, extensive efforts have been dedicated to comprehending underlying mechanisms developing strategies for prevention treatment. Selenium, crucial participant in redox reactions, emerges notable factor maintaining myocardial cell homeostasis influencing progression cardiovascular disorders. Some disorders, such Keshan disease, are directly linked with environmental deficiency. Nevertheless, precise extent system remains unclear, marked by contradictory findings existing literature. High selenium levels associated an increased risk hypertension, while lower concentrations heart failure atrial fibrillation. Although some trials shown potential effectiveness specific groups patients, large cohort supplementation attempts generally yielded unsatisfactory outcomes. Consequently, there persists significant need further research aimed at delineating patient cohorts that would benefit from supplementation.

Previous studies on the correlation between serum selenium and hypertension have yielded inconsistent results. Our previous analysis of participants from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011–2018 indicated that elevated concentrations were associated with an increased risk metabolic abnormalities in obese individuals, primary effect being blood pressure males. The aim this study was to further elucidate relationship In study, we examined 2,585 male a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30 kg/m2 aged 20 80 years NHANES database. associations levels evaluated through weighted generalized linear regression analyses. To examine saturation threshold hypertension, additive model (GAM) two-piecewise employed. Furthermore, separately subgroups stratified by BMI age. prevalence (51.84%) slightly higher than nonhypertension (48.16%) included study. After rigorous adjustment for sociodemographic, physical, laboratory test covariates, odds ratio (OR) 103% every 1 standard deviation (SD) increase (approximately 24.41 µg) concentration assigned highest group (weighted OR = 2.03; 95% CI 1.24–3.32; P 0.013). For adult males who require additional supplementation enhancing their overall health well-being, it is strongly recommended be monitored throughout course ensure they remain within relatively safe range 215.75 µg/L).

Background Hypertension poses an imperative global health risk, affecting over 1 billion people and contributing to cardiovascular disease, especially for women. While previous studies suggest micronutrients such as Vitamin C or Selenium can help reduce blood pressure, research on their interactive effects remains limited. Methods This cross-sectional study analyzed data from 9,343 women aged 20 years older in NHANES (2011–2020). Logistic regression analysis was conducted evaluate the effect of each micronutrient hypertension. To account potential interactions between micronutrients, we calculated relative excess risk due interaction, which assessed combined Results We confirmed individual associations with hypertension, showing significant negative correlations ( p < 0.05). Participants were then divided into four groups, those high intakes both had a significantly lower hypertension 0.05), supporting association intake these nutrients though no synergistic observed. Conclusion The findings support prevention, broadening thoughts level nutrition treatment These results adequate supplementation pressure. However, further rigorous clinical are essential validate strengthen findings.

BACKGROUND: The blood pressure (BP) etiologic study is complex due to multifactorial influences, including genetic, environmental, lifestyle, and their intricate interplays. We used a metabolomics approach capture internal pathways external exposures BP regulation mechanisms after well-controlled dietary interventions. METHODS: In the ProBP trail (Protein Blood Pressure), double-blinded crossover randomized controlled trial, participants underwent interventions of carbohydrate, soy protein, milk receiving 40 g daily for 8 weeks, with 3-week washout periods. measured plasma samples collected at baseline end each intervention. Multivariate linear models were evaluate association between metabolites systolic/diastolic BP. Nominally significant examined enriching biological pathways. Significant findings evaluated replication among 1311 BHS (Bogalusa Heart Study), population-based conducted in same area as ProBP. RESULTS: After Bonferroni correction 77 independent metabolite clusters (α=6.49×10 −4 ), 18 significantly associated or intervention, which 11 replicated BHS. Seven emerged novel discoveries, are follows: 1-linoleoyl-GPE (18:2), 1-oleoyl-GPE (18:1), 1-stearoyl-2-linoleoyl-GPC (18:0/18:2), 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-GPE (16:0/18:1), maltose, N-stearoyl-sphinganine (d18:0/18:0), N6-carbamoylthreonyladenosine. Pathway enrichment analyses suggested protein intervention might reduce through related G protein–coupled receptors, incretin function, selenium micronutrient network, mitochondrial biogenesis. CONCLUSIONS: identified be different beneficial effects mediated specific metabolic

Graves’ disease (GD), also known as Basedow disease, is an autoimmune disorder leading to excessive production of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism). The prevalence GD varies by region and sex, with the highest onset typically occurring between ages 30 50. Symptoms include a rapid heart rate, weight loss, heat intolerance, goiter. Standard treatments involve antithyroid medications, radioactive iodine therapy, or surgery. Multiple studies have linked gut microbiota development disorders. Recent research has focused on potential benefits nutritional interventions, particularly selenium prebiotics, in managing GD. This chapter aims provide new insights into etiology treatment through administration probiotics selenium.
