Plastic pollution and climate change are two major environmental focuses. Having the forming potential due to ambient plastic pollution, fate of microplastics shall be inevitably impacted by global warming. This manuscript discusses destiny characterizes their considering framework planetary boundary. The routes for microplastic discharge include release stored in ice into sea when melts as a result temperature increase, flushing plastic/microplastic debris from shorelines adjacent water bodies increased rainfall, redistribution away source wind, accumulation soil drought. A perspective on impact aquatic organisms was discussed well.

Sea turtles are an iconic group of marine megafauna that have been exposed to multiple anthropogenic threats across their different life stages, especially in the past decades. This has resulted population declines, and consequently many sea turtle populations now classified as threatened or endangered globally. Although some worldwide showing early signs recovery, still face fundamental threats. is problematic since important ecological roles. To encourage informed conservation planning direct future research, we surveyed experts identify key contemporary (climate change, take, fisheries, pollution, disease, predation, coastal development) faced by turtles. Using survey results current literature, also outline knowledge gaps our understanding impact these how targeted often involving emerging technologies, could close those gaps.

Santa Luzia, an uninhabited island in the archipelago of Cabo Verde, serves as a natural laboratory and important nesting site for loggerhead turtles Caretta. The constitutes Integral Natural Reserve Marine Protected Area. We assessed marine litter accumulation on sandy beaches analysed their spatial patterns using two sampling methods: at fine scale, sand samples from 1 × m squares were collected, identifying debris larger than mm; coarse drone surveys conducted to identify visible (>25 mm) aerial images. sampled six points three island: Achados (three points), Francisca (two points) Palmo Tostão (one point). Then, we modelled abundance topographical variables explanatory factors, derived digital surface models (DSM). Our findings reveal that is significant repository (>84% composed plastics), with up 917 plastic items per m2 maximum 38 macro-debris surveys. Plastic fragments dominate, followed by pellets (at fine-scale approach) fishing materials coarse-scale approach). observed north-facing, higher-elevation accumulate more large litter, while slope elevation affect distribution within beach. Beach faces severe pollution challenges, upcoming climate changes could exacerbate this problem.

The loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) has been suggested as a bio-indicator species for plastic pollution. However, detailed investigations in the eastern Mediterranean are limited. Here, we present data from turtles (2012-2022; n = 131) of which 42.7 % (n 57) had ingested macroplastic (pieces ≥ 5 mm). Frequency occurrence (%) was not found to have changed over time, with body size (CCL cm), between stranded or bycaught turtles, levels digesta present. characteristics 492) were largely sheetlike (62 %), clear (41 %) white (25 and most common polymers identified Polypropylene (37 Polyethylene (35 %). Strong selectivity displayed towards certain types, colours shapes. Data also presented posthatchling 4), an understudied life stage. Much larger sample sizes will be needed this effective bio-indicator, consideration monitoring green (Chelonia mydas) recommended allowing more holistic picture gathered.

The aquaculture industry is growing rapidly and plays a huge role in bridging the global demand gap for fish other aquatic foods. It vital contributor of valuable nutrients economic benefits. Aquaculture fisheries provide means livelihood to an estimated 58.5 million people globally, according United Nations Food Agriculture Organisation. However, sector impacted by ubiquity microplastics toxic chemicals. Although many studies have reported plastic pollution environment, less attention has been paid coexistence chemicals with particles climate change food contamination. This review evaluates occurrence organisms, feeds, water, sediment ecosystem detection hazardous effects chemical contaminants. We also highlight novel insights into contamination organisms ecosystems. report that extent aquaculture's contribution yet be adequately quantified requires further investigation appropriate risk assessment prevention safety crisis.
