Parasitic ciliates are protozoans with a global distribution. Along the gut microbiota, they have formed micro-ecosystem that affects host's nutrition, metabolism, and immunity. The interactions relationships among three components of this microecosystem (protozoa, host) remain only partially understood. Xenocypris fish unique ciliate Balantidium polyvacuolum in its hindgut good materials to study interplay. In study, 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) identification were used. Network was also constructed understand their relationships. We found microbiota B. polyvacuolum-infected X. davidi argentea had higher diversity, richness, evenness than uninfected ones. could lead an increase Fusobacterium Chloroflexi both argentea, while significantly abundance genera Romboutsia Clostridium argentea. Besides, content total SCFAs acetic acid concentrations propionic, isobutyric butanoic Furthermore, correlation analyses showed may alter by affecting key SCFAs-producing bacteria such as Cetobacterium. This greatly expands our understanding polyvacuolum, host fish, which sheds new insights into mechanism interaction protozoa, host.

ABSTRACT The persistence and specificity of fish host-microbial interaction during evolution is an important part exploring the symbiosis mechanism. However, it remains unclear how environmental host factors shape host-microbe symbiotic relationships in subtropical rivers with complex natural environments. The dynamic alterations in intestinal microbiota can provide insights into the adaptive relationships between these microorganisms and their hosts response to environmental changes. Schizothorax nukiangensis is widely distributed throughout Nujiang River exhibits numerous unique adaptations. In this study, we collected samples of S. across different seasons regions within comprehensively elucidate diversity composition its using metagenomic technology. results indicated that Firmicutes Proteobacteria predominated at phylum level, while Priestia, Bacillus, Aeromonas were most abundant genera identified. Notably, relative abundance varied significantly regions. From autumn through spring summer, predominant shifted from Proteobacteria. Biomarker analysis revealed (including class bacilli Priestia Bacillus) exhibited a higher upstream group, where categories related amino acid metabolism carbohydrate enriched. Conversely, several potential pathogens, such as Saezia, Pantoea, Lelliotia, genera) showed an increased downstream groups, disease-related significant enrichment. Our findings enhance our understanding how adapts environment, providing valuable data support for conservation ecological security assessment River.

Aquatic wildlife health assessment is critically important for aquatic conservation. However, the of (especially wild animals) difficult and often accompanied by invasive survey activities delayed observability. As there growing evidence that environmental microbiota could impact status animals influencing their symbiotic microbiota, we propose a non-invasive method to monitor using index (microHI). it unknown whether this effective different ecotype groups animals. To answer question, took case study in middle Yangtze River studied water fish gut at community level, population level. The results showed microHI healthy group was higher than unhealthy levels, overall positively correlated with microHI, whereas baseline species-specific. Integrating these variations four (filter-feeding, scraper-feeding, omnivorous, carnivorous), only carnivorous microHI. Alcaligenaceae, Enterobacteriaceae, Achromobacter were most abundant health-negative-impacting phenotypes, had high positive correlations between sample environment group, significantly abundance carnivorous, filter-feeding, scraper-feeding ecotypes. Therefore, indicate just In River, Enterobacteriaceae (family level),

We aimed to investigate the effects of quercetin and taxifolin on gut health in Chinese sucker (Myxocyprinus asiaticus). Short-term exposure (96 h) was conducted by exposing 2.5 mg/L (Q2.5), 5 (Q5), 10 (Q10), (T2.5), (T5), (T10), their combination (quercetin taxifolin: mg/L+5 mg/L, QT). Then, we analyzed intestinal microorganisms, fat composition, digestive enzyme activities, antioxidant inflammatory-related gene expression. Both had an inhibitory effect flora, higher concentration, better effect. When compared quercetin, inhibited harmful bacteria more efficiently maintained abundance probiotics. T5 QT reduced content total cholesterol (T-CHO), triglycerides (TG) tissues. Q5 trypsin activity, while increased amylase (AMS) activity Q5, T5, expression GST, GPx4, SOD1 CAT intestine. The levels GST were than groups. IL1β, IL6, IL8, TNF-α, TNF-β, IL10. In summary, using alone would be beneficial with regards maintaining homeostasis flora increasing anti-inflammatory capacity tract. optimal application rate mg/L.

Understanding the interactions between fish gut microbiota and aquatic environment is a key issue for understanding microorganisms. Environmental microorganisms enter intestines through feeding, amount of invasion varies due to different feeding habits. Traditional habitat preferences are determined by morphology or behavior. However, little known about how behavior relative vertical structure in shallow lake influences microbiota. In our study, we used nitrogen isotopes measure trophic levels fish. Then high-throughput sequencing was describe composition environmental microbiota, FEAST (fast expectation-maximization microbial source tracking) method trace We investigated diversity guts their habitats Lake Sanjiao verified that sediments indeed played an important role assembly Then, analysis indicated water acted as primary sources half respectively. Furthermore, classified using data significant differences both function were observed groups with distinct preferences. The performance supervised unsupervised machine learning classifying actually exceeded classification species taxonomy level. Finally, described stability co-occurrence networks Interestingly, network seemed more stable pelagic than benthic Our results show main factor affecting advocated use surrounding reflect structure. This approach not only offers novel perspective factors, but also provides new methods ideas studying selection ecosystems.

The gut microbiota of fish is crucial for their growth, development, nutrient uptake, physiological balance, and disease resistance. Yet our knowledge these microbial communities in wild populations natural ecosystems insufficient. This study systematically examined the seven species Chaohu Lake, a fishing-restricted area with minimal water turnover, across four seasons. We found significant variations community structures among species. Additionally, we observed seasonal regional communities. Lake were predominantly composed phyla Firmicutes, Proteobacteria(Gamma), Proteobacteria(Alpha), Actinobacteriota, Cyanobacteria. At genus level, Aeromonas, Cetobacterium, Clostridium sensu stricto 1, Romboutsia, Pseudomonas emerged as most prevalent. A co-occurrence network analysis revealed that C. auratus, carpio, brachygnathus possessed more complex robust networks than H. molitrix, alburnus, ectenes taihuensis, A. nobilis. Certain groups, such Pseudomonas, both dominant keystone network. Our offers new approach studying natural, controlled environments. It an in-depth understanding living stable, limited exchange

The gut microbiota has become a topic of increasing importance in various fields, including aquaculture. Several fish species have been the subject investigations concerning intestinal microbiota, which compared different variables, portions, environment, and diet. In this study, farmed wild brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) were analyzed, wall content medial portion intestine considered separately. A total 66 (age class 2+) sampled, 46 20 trout, two years. Microbiota data obtained using 16S metabarcoding approach by analyzing V3-V4 hypervariable regions corresponding rRNA. showed that core these consist Proteobacteria (Alpha- Gammaproteobacteria), Actinobacteria, Firmicutes (Bacilli Clostridia), and, only for animals, Fusobacteria. latter taxon's presence is likely related to fishmeal-based diet administered trout. Indeed, alpha beta diversity analysis differences between fish. Finally, statistically significant composition observed walls contents fish, while no detected reared animals. Our work represents first study on with respect both specimens. Future studies might focus comparison our those pertaining other portions intestine.
