This review examines the potential of nanomaterials in revolutionizing food packaging, focusing on their role enhancing barrier properties and extending shelf life packaged foods. Traditional packaging materials often fall short effectively protecting against oxygen, moisture, UV light, resulting diminished quality shorter life. Challenges in global food supply chains include preserving postharvest quality and extending the shelf life of fruits vegetables. The utilization edible coatings (ECs) combined with biocontrol agents (BCAs) represents a promising strategy to enhance these commodities. This review analyzes most recent developments EC technologies their combination BCAs, highlighting synergistic effects on pathogen control maintenance. Various types ECs, including polysaccharides, proteins, lipids, are discussed alongside coating fundamentals mechanisms through which BCAs contribute suppression. also highlights efficacy approaches maintaining physicochemical properties, sensory attributes, nutritional value fruits. Key challenges such as regulatory requirements, consumer acceptance, scalability addressed. Future research directions proposed optimize formulations, improve application techniques, overall biocomposite multifunctional coatings.
