Micronutrient deficiency also known as "hidden hunger" refers to a condition that occurs when the body lacks essential vitamins and minerals are required in small amounts for proper growth, development overall health. These deficiencies particularly common developing countries, where lack of access varied nutritious diet makes it difficult people get micronutrients they need. supplementation has been topic interest, especially during Covid-19 pandemic, due its potential role supporting immune function Iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), iodine (I), selenium (Se) humans significant food-related issues worldwide. Biofortification is sustainable strategy developed address micronutrient by increasing levels staple crops widely consumed affected communities. There number agricultural techniques biofortification, including selective breeding have higher specific nutrients, agronomic approach using fertilizers other inputs increase nutrient uptake transgenic approach. The offers temporary but speedy solution while genetic (breeding transgenic) long-term requires time develop nutrient-rich variety.

Nutritional deficiency is becoming a universal problem, resulting in poor health, low worker productivity, high rates of mortality and morbidity. Large-scale dietary improvements are needed to deliver healthy, sustainable diet the increasing world population. Fruits vegetables as well their valorized wastes industrial by-products constitute major sources bioactive compounds, including carotenoids. Carotenoids lipophilic pigments that occur widely nature distributed plants, fish, birds, algae, archaea, yeasts, fungi, bacteria, invertebrate animals (such insects, mites, aphids). The most significant aspects carotenoids human antioxidant provitamin A activities, also color they impart our food. researched diets commonly occurring blood β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, lycopene, lutein α-carotene, with β-carotene comprising portion pro-vitamin A. Phytoene phytofluene recently increasingly topical diet. Genotype, environment, climate, post-harvest handling processing among factors affecting Thus, this review, results from several studies on recent developments carotenoid sources, marketability, biofortification, new insights for valorization food agro-industrial by-products, health effects concentrations compositions critically pinpointed briefly discussed. Lastly, research needs, mainly crop waste valorization, therapeutic properties highlighted so enhance production nutritional values potentially benefits.

Micronutrient deficiency in soil and crops is a critical issue that contributes to what known as hidden hunger. Hidden hunger refers the lack of essential vitamins minerals people diets, often due poor nutrient content staple crops, which can lead significant health problems despite adequate caloric intake. Micronutrients are required small amounts but crucial for various physiological functions plants, including cereals enzyme activation, photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation, synthesis vital compounds. Corrective measures address micronutrient deficiencies include application, seed treatment, foliar sprays, genetic biofortification. Foliar sprays particularly effective they allow direct application nutrients plant leaves, ensuring quick absorption utilization. This method rapidly correct deficiencies, improve crop yields, enhance nutritional quality produce. Previous research has shown efficacy addressing deficiencies. Additionally, advancements nanotechnology have led development more efficient spray formulations uptake minimize environmental impact. Overall, through other agronomic practices improving health, yield, quality, thereby contributing food security alleviation However, specific dose each micro- beneficial highly related cropping systems, season, agroclimatic conditions, materials used, growth stage. The review article focuses on all issues concerns with possible options correcting ensure agricultural sustainability.

Abstract Micronutrient malnutrition is one of the major causes human disorders in developing world. Iron (Fe) an important micronutrient due to its use metabolism such as immune system and energy production. Estimates indicate that above 30% global population at risk Fe deficiency, posing a particular threat infants pregnant women. Plants have adapted various strategies for uptake, transport, accumulation, storage tissues organs which later can be consumed by humans. Biofortification refers increase concentration edible parts plants understanding pathways accumulation plants. Conventional plant breeding, transgenics, agronomic interventions, microbe‐mediated biofortification are all potential methods address deficiency. This review article critically evaluates key aspects pertaining cereal crops. It encompasses in‐depth analysis holistic presence Fe, significance both contexts, diverse employed destined consumption. Additionally, explores bioavailability investigates biofortification, with specific emphasis on traditional recent breakthroughs aimed enhancing content food Keeping view life, appropriate may serve better eliminate hidden hunger rather than artificial supplementation.
