Abstract A cross-sectional, retrospective study was conducted from October 2013 through July 2014 to determine the prevalence of refractive errors among students attending public primary schools in Mexico. Among 3,861,156 at 14,566 all 32 states Mexico, teachers identified possible 1,253,589 (32.5%) using visual acuity measurement. Optometrists confirmed 391,498 [31.2%, mean (SD) age: 8.8 (1.9) years; 204,110 girls (52.9%)] had measurement and noncycloplegic static retinoscopy. 288,537 (72.4%) children with previous eyeglasses usage data reported, 241,505 (83.7%) uncorrected errors. Before prescription were provided, 281,891 (72%) logMAR 0.2 or worse; corrected vision loss 85.6% (n = 241,352) them. Simple myopic astigmatism most frequent error (25.7%, n 100,545). Astigmatism >-1.00 diopters present 54.6% ametropia. The anisometropia rate based on SE difference between right left eye ≥ 1.50 3.9% 15,402). Uncorrected are an important issue school An updated is needed analyze evolving trends over past decade.

Supplementation with dietary neuro-pigments lutein (L) and zeaxanthin (Z) has been shown to improve many aspects of visual cognitive function in adults. In this study, we tested whether a similar intervention could such outcomes preadolescent children. Sixty children (age range 5–12 years) were randomized 2:1 ratio double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Subjects supplemented gummies containing either combination 10 mg 2 (LZ) or placebo for 180 days. Macular pigment optical density (MPOD) was the primary endpoint. The secondary endpoints included serum levels L Z, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), critical flicker fusion (CFF), eye strain fatigue using analogue scales (VAS), Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire-Abbreviated (CSHQ-A), Creyos Health domains like attention, focus/concentration, episodic memory learning, visuospatial working memory, processing speed. Safety assessed throughout study on basis physical examination, vital signs, laboratory tests, monitoring adverse events. LZ group showed significant increases MPOD at all visits post-supplementation, as early day 42 compared placebo. levels, reduced fatigue, improved performance (focus, memory) days 90 Further, speed processing, Z BDNF No safety concerns observed. Supplementing resulted increased along L, BDNF. These changes associated performances reduction receiving gummies. investigational product safe well tolerated. http://ctri.nic.in/ Identifier CTRI/2022/05/042364.

The studies on the association between sleep duration and myopia are limited, evidence is inconsistent. This study aimed to evaluate myopia, cycloplegic spherical equivalent (SE) axial length (AL) among Chinese children during Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. was a cross-sectional aged 6-18 years. comprehensive ophthalmic examinations for included SE, AL, standardized questionnaires. questionnaire duration, parental outdoor time, continuous near work without breaks. Myopia defined as SE ≤-0.50 diopters (D). A total of 1,140 were in analyses, with 84.7% myopic 74.4% children's daily being more than 8 h/d. In univariate regression analysis, compared < h/d, 8-9 >9 h/d less (p 0.01 all), had shorter AL all). After adjusting age, gender, breaks, not associated > 0.05 showed related COVID-19 pandemic-related lifestyles, but no independent association.

The global burden of myopia continues to expand, and the prevalence in East Asian populations is particular concern. With substantial increase screen-based electronic devices, screen time has emerged as a potential risk factor. This review examined relationship between viewing duration public health strategies reduce exposure among children. We conducted an evidence-based only meta-analyses investigating association, searching PubMed from inception January 20, 2025. Four six reviewed supported association prolonged use (> 2 or 3hours/day) increased risk. However, methodological limitations include predominance cross-sectional study designs, self-reported measurements, lack cycloplegic refraction some studies within meta-analyses. Current focus mainly on banning mobile phones schools limiting time. Technology-based solutions, such anti-addiction systems, support complement these strategies. Healthcare providers play crucial role assessing patterns children providing recommendations. Future should employ objective conduct longitudinal analyses with refraction, evaluate effectiveness interventions prevention through randomized controlled trials. In addition, examining combined effects traditional near-work activities may provide more comprehensive insights into factors.

Defocus Incorporated Soft Contact (DISC) lenses with +2.50 D myopic defocus reduced myopia progression by 25% in a previous randomised clinical trial (RCT). The current study aimed to evaluate if stronger defocus, +3.50 variable (DISC3.5plus), could slow compared single vision (SV) soft contact 12-month RCT. Conducted from December 2018 January 2021, the RCT randomly assigned children wear DISC3.5plus (n = 87) or SV 80) lenses. Myopia and axial elongation were between two groups. Analyses performed for both enrolled completed participants. For all participants, group had significantly less (mean difference: -0.15 ± 0.07 D, p 0.02) 0.04 0.02 0.04) than at 6 months but not 12 (myopia progression: 0.11; elongation: 0.13). 33) (0.25 0.001) (0.19 0.09 0.049) 40), (6 months: 0.16; 0.32). In 2020, coronavirus pandemic disturbed lens-wearing patterns. slowed participants over months. hindered longer term efficacy follow-up sample size; thus, further investigation more is needed confirm sustained treatment effects.

Abstract Purpose We used baseline data from the PICNIC longitudinal study to investigate structural, functional, behavioural and heritable metrics that may predict future myopia in young children. Methods Cycloplegic refractive error (M) optical biometry were obtained 97 children with functional emmetropia. Children classified as high risk (HR) or low (LR) for based on parental M. Other included axial length (AXL), length/corneal radius (AXL/CR) centile curves. Results Based criteria, 46 (26 female) HR (M = +0.62 ± 0.44 D, AXL 22.80 0.64 mm) 51 (27 LR +1.26 22.77 0.77 mm). centiles, 49 HR, moderate agreement compared classification (k 0.65, p < 0.01). ANCOVA age a covariate showed significant effect ( 0.01), longer deeper anterior chamber depth (ACD) 0.01) those at (differences 0.16 mm, ACD 0.13 Linear regression models central corneal thickness (CCT), ACD, posterior vitreous (PVD) (=AXL – CCT ACD‐lens (LT)), (CR) significantly predicted M R 0.64, Each 1.00 D decrease hyperopia was associated 0.97 mm elongation PVD 0.43 increase CR. The ratio AXL/CR −0.45, did −0.25, although lesser extent. Conclusions Although highly correlated, of pre‐myopic into different when using each parameter, being most predictive metric.
